The #1 skill missing from today’s athlete is mental toughness. Refusing to hold oneself accountable to individual and team goals. Blaming others for circumstances. Not fighting through adversity. Pouting and poor body language. Physical skill can only take you so far. Get tough!
Seeing a worrying trend unfold in varsity baseball lately. Over the past month, I’ve witnessed an unsettling number of head coaches stepping down, not for typical personal reasons but due to excessive parental interference. Speaking to one of the departing coaches, he confided his preference to resign rather than surrender control of his program to overbearing parents. This raises a crucial question: What’s happened to the core principles of hard work and perseverance in sports? Are we so caught up in our own entitled ambitions that we’re willing to disrupt and potentially ruin these vital developmental experiences for others? It’s high time we take a step back and consider the lessons we’re teaching our young athletes. We must encourage them to embrace challenges and adversity, as these are the very experiences that shape resilient, capable adults. Life is not going to coddle them, and neither should we. Let’s restore integrity and independence to the game and let our coaches coach.

TL;DR 7 things bad coaches do
1. Obsess about winning
2. Failure to communicate
3. Ignore team morale
4. Inappropriate behavior
5. Not adapting
6. Neglect player development
7. Not focus on culture
Pitchers
When in trouble.
Stop sweating your ass off trying to throw harder.
You're not in trouble because you're not throwing hard enough, you're in trouble because you're not commanding the baseball.
Help the hitter get himself out.
Locate the damn baseball.
Stop throwing and pitch.
Do less with your stuff and more with your command.
