BREAKING:
The UK Supreme Court has granted permission in my appeal against Stonewall. The overwhelming majority of applications are refused. After years of being told these issues had no wider significance, the highest court in the land has now decided they warrant full consideration.
Press release to follow shortly.
@akuareindorf This doesn't even make sense on its own terms. Surely a butch lesbian is more likely to be challenged in a women's space if 'woman' means 'feminine' than if 'woman' means female.
This is what happens when highly creative spin is circulated.
The judgment does *not* mean that a transwoman visiting a cafe can use the women's toilets.
Please read the judgment. If that fails, read a *reliable* summary. Here's one from @SexMattersOrg: https://t.co/EWS4p8xhee
Still waiting for my shame to kick in but nothing so far. If it speeds things up for 'Bash Back' I've also donated to Maya Forstater, Rachel Meade, Jo Phoenix, Alison Bailey (twice) and many, many others. I can set out a list for them if they like.
Proud of every single penny and I only wish it could have been more but sadly the roof falling off and root canal work made that impossible.
"What is a woman?" is not a test of knowledge. We know you know what a woman is - and we know you know men who claim to be women aren't actually women. It's a test of honesty.
"Am I a man?" is you failing that test.
The Times on the Peggie judgment:
“several of the citations used to support the judgment's conclusions are at best wildly misleading and, in some cases, possibly entirely fake.”
A serious allegation requiring IMHO an urgent judicial response to maintain public trust in the law.
This seems like the sort of thing that you probably shouldn’t do in a very high profile judgment that you would expect to be subject to intensive scrutiny and which was quite likely to be appealed.
I don't think anyone who's salivating at the prospect of mass political violence or civil war has the foggiest idea of how bad these things are in real life. It's beyond their memory and their imagination.
If you're not a complete sociopath, the thought process goes like this:
"Did I agree with Charlie Kirk's political stances? No, I would probably disagree with many of his views."
"Do I think he deserved to be murdered in front of his wife and children? No. A thousand times NO."
Let's be clear: the United Kingdom's Parliament is not unicameral. The House of Lords has a legitimate role in scrutinising, amending and, yes, if it comes to it, voting down legislation it thinks undesirable, unfeasible or unsafe.
In truth, there’s more than just a bit of self-fellatio of the ego behind Maugham’s public invocation of @JK_Rowling in this matter.
Ever the opportunist, Maugham would dearly like people to view him as the plucky underdog taking on a billionaire leviathan with near unlimited resources at her command and not for what he actually is...
...a hectoring egomaniac leveraging his unfettered control of a multi-million-pound organisation - one that’s funded almost entirely by public donations to the tune of £4.4 million in the year to January 2025 - to bully an ordinary family law barrister with an already twice rejected and defamatory regulatory complaint.
A linked to Sarah’s crowdfunder is to be found in the pinned post on her ‘X’ account - @SVPhillimore.
/end.
When you frame legitimate concerns as far-right, you don’t make the concerns look unreasonable, you make the far-right look reasonable.
The ivory tower media’s failure to understand this is a big reason they’re losing.
@joshxhowie It's very odd, given how closely he will have followed Trump's success with the 'Harris is for they/them' line... unless it's a conscious decision not to alienate potential woke libertarian funders?
@HildegardP@quineofthenorth@legalfeminist Yes and I agree with his analysis of Goodwin. The ECtHR is a law unto itself though so I can understand why the TRA lawyers would think it's worth a pop and I don't think we can afford to be complacent.
@quineofthenorth@legalfeminist This would be a mechanism to challenge the SC ruling. The argument would be that FWS means he can't bring a GR discrimination claim and can only claim sex discrimination, contrary to dignity blah blah. I'm not saying it would succeed, but it could well be what they have in mind.
@quineofthenorth@legalfeminist He's a grifter, he'll go where he can keep himself in the news. Having said that I don't think we should be complacent about the ECtHR. It's a weak court, and most judgments are authored in the first instance by registry lawyers who are very much of the TRA demographic.
