@frozenwarning Not to mention that the entire population of Manchester in the mid-1930s amounted to around 750,000 and that Pathe News was prone to exaggerating to make their stories more entertaining.

@_ChrisLepkowski@djbaggie123 Moving to SCR may alter that as it incentives revenue generation. A decent cup run means more money in the transfer kitty.
From watching the video, it seems clear that where Ms Coad was ineptly attempting to get to was the idea of discrimination by perception which is, of course, part of the UK Equality Act albeit that the PCs of pregnancy/maternity and marriage/civil partnership are expressly exclude from that section.
What I find most striking is her apparently inability to express that idea in any kind of clear and coherent manner, principally I suspect because framing her argument in terms of perception would amount to an implicit admission that transwomen are actually men.
@_ChrisLepkowski I don't know, there's something about a proper no-nonsense Italian defender that demands admiration.
It's no coincidence that Italy's recent decline followed on from Chiellini's retirement from international football.
For the record, the term 'gender dysphoria' was coined by Stanford University psychiatrist, Norman Fisk MD, in 1974 in a conference address, journal paper and editorial, which collectively presented an argument to justify the extension of the use of sex reassignment surgery to patient groups that had previously been excluded from such surgeries under the treatment criteria developed primarily by Harry Benjamin.
"Encompassed in a spectrum of gender disorders would be effeminate homosexuality or hyper-masculine homosexuality in the female, male and female transvestitism, a fascinating subgroup of patients who could be termed inadequate passive dependent personalities with a mild to moderate transvestic fetish and a group of overtly sociopathic persons who merely seek gender reorientation or sex conversion operations as a means of becoming a "professional" transsexual and thereby to gain fame, notoriety and wealth. Finally, many psychotic patients have a severe type of gender confusion. Twenty percent of all patients contacting our program are overtly psychotic and are of course referred for or given appropriate psychiatric treatment."
Norman Fisk MD, Western Journal of Medicine, 1974.
I will, of course, be happy to furnish Naomi with copies of both of the Fisk's foundational papers, should she wish to include them in any evidence submitted to the BSB.
@_ChrisLepkowski@djbaggie123 I'd agree with that - it's the game where the novelty of the whole 'Three Degrees' thing began to wear off and people started to realise that black players were here to stay.
Up there with Anderson's first England cap in importance, certainly.
But that one's not about the result or the opponents, its about having a rare opportunity to see that 1978/79 team in full flow because so few games were covered by TV at the time.
This, and the home leg of the Valencia tie, are afforded such status in part because of the TV footage we don't have.
We don't have footage of Laurie's legendary performance in the away leg of the Valencia tie or the 7-1 demolition of Coventry. If the visual record of that season was a lot more comprehensive, as it these day, then maybe we wouldn't make quite so much of a fuss over a handful of games.
@taylorrobe79522@brucerdity@SwipeWright It also has to be said that the UK Equality Act specifically excludes the Pregnancy/Maternity and Marriage/Civil Partnership protected characteristics from the section dealing with discrimination by perception.
Without wishing to be cynical, the report states that the venue has sold over 100 tickets (at £20 each according to their online advertising) for an event with four billed tribute acts, two of which are advertised as having a full band.
Straight away you're in the £500-1000 territory per act, maybe more if you're booking full band shows with 4-5 musicians per act plus the vocalist.
You'll need a minimum of two door staff plus at least one at the front of house to cover the stage area, regardless of any presumed risks because of some moron taking down their banners.
Then you've got your normal running and staff costs on top.
Venue capacity is apparently 350, so without ticket sales picking up dramatically between now and June 20, the venue were staring down the barrel of a sizeable loss.
@QcWynter Go pristine but make a point of having a pre-match grumble about the indignity having had to replace your trusty, well-worn and comfortable whites.
Causation is. paradoxically, both simple and complex at the same time.
What I mean by that is that the trigger is invariably a perception that one has catastrophically and irretrievably lost control of some key aspect of one's own life in such a way as to make the prospect of living intolerable.
That's straightforward, what's complex - except, perhaps in hindsight - is navigating the confluence of different factors and experiences that lead people to that position.
In some ways this is bread and butter stuff, I learned this well over 30 years ago because my organisational psychology lecturer's research specialism was stress, but its one thing to identify and understand various stressors and quite another to try and anticipate how particular individuals will respond to them with any kind of consistency.
If there's a small businessman effect then it will run in the opposite direction. i.e. lower rates in trades that can generate a reasonable income from repairs and maintenance work if/when the construction side goes flat.
Sparkies, registered gas engineers and plumbers are generally going to be okay as long as they have a decent reputation.
