1/6 Today I gave 5 pieces of advice to our new @UMichSurgery interns.
First I asked them if they had a culture. “Not yet”
I suggested they would soon and when they were chiefs, they would own the culture of the residency. They will create it starting now.
So my 5 tips👇
The last few weeks have been so eye-opening and rewarding overall. I was able to take part in numerous Hispanic women’s urologic care who both were appreciative of having a Latina physician on the team. We need more Hispanic women in Urology. This is just the beginning! #UroSoMe
Talking to a patient in Spanish who looks and speaks like my dad is the moment that reminds me why I went into medicine. My parents never had that moment with physicians when I was a kid.
Keep finding those moments with patients that remind you why you chose medicine.
Good luck to everyone submitting their ERAS! Some tips during your interviews:
1. Be yourself! Remember you are a confident baddie who made it this far and you have a lot to offer to this program. They need you as much as you need them.
Dear MATCH 2024 applicants,
September is here and many if you might be stressing out for multiple reasons, worried and anxious about all the things right and wrong.
Here is the thread to just talk to you guys as a friend, since I was in your shoes in the recent past
Want to diversify medicine?
Prioritize med school applicants from LOW INCOME zip codes and include those with underrepresented language proficiency (Spanish, Filipino, Thai)
Reverse engineering the structure of medicine - which currently favors the wealthy - is NECESSARY
Thread 1/6: the importance of medical Spanish & why it might be a good idea to get out of your comfort zone by buying medical Spanish ID badge attachments (link provided at end of thread) with my own family story.
