And oftentimes this means diagnosis after ONE session (in order to get reimbursement from insurance) which just isn’t feasible.
Managed care makes mental healthcare systems broken.
@jcrawfordtv You may have symptoms or behaviors you want to work on but that doesn’t mean you meet criteria for a diagnosis.
Insurance companies require therapists to give them a diagnosis in order for them to pay for the services.
1. Black therapists are held to a different standard.
2. Evidenced-based treatment may not be based on evidence regarding Black people.
3. If insurance companies didn’t require a diagnosis to pay for therapy, many people would not have a diagnosis.
4. Working with the wrong therapist could make your mental health worse.
5. Individual therapy for children may not work if parents don’t attend family therapy.
6. A lot of people are using MH terms to manipulate others.
7. Therapists need to embrace clients who self diagnose, as this is helpful in identifying what their needs are.
8. Just because someone manipulates you, doesn’t mean they are narcissistic.
9. ALL of your emotions are valid. Learning what to do when you experience them is important.
10. Relapse is part of your journey and that’s okay. You can try again.
11. CBT is not everything grad school told us it would be.
12. There are A LOT of racist therapists.
13. Doctors are not doing enough MH screening when seeing patients.
14. It makes no sense that therapists can’t work with clients outside of their state if they don’t have a license there.
15. You can fire your therapist and therapists can fire you.
16. You can pray and see a therapist.
17. Falling for your therapist is super common so please don’t be ashamed of that.
18. There are way too many therapists who have not gone to therapy.
19. There are several tech companies selling your mental health data when you work with some of the big telehealth platforms.
