@mrstephendeng@chernayj@j0sephbens0n Great piece, but surprised to not see any comparisons to the India case. Curious how you think Nigeria will play out differently.
On this #MonopolyMonday & in honor of World Diabetes Day (yesterday), we’re spotlighting the three corporations that dominate the insulin industry —
@LillyPad, @sanofi, and @novonordisk.
The earrings @RepKatiePorter is wearing, if filled with insulin, are priced at $600.
Two vials of insulin keep me alive for around 20 days.
We need federal price caps on insulin!!!

#MobileMoney fees in #Kenya are not being paid equally across gender, says @BryanJustinPon of @cariboudata. Many women are paying more than men, and he explains how understanding this situation could shed light on more complex #DigitalFinance challenges.

tl;dr on our latest work with @cariboudigital and @TheDFSLab: On average, about half of M-PESA P2P transactions are below the fee threshold. But if you cut by gender, you find women are much less likely than men to make free transactions, and thus end up paying more in P2P fees.
@SamoraKariuki@pesa_africa @cariboudata The chart shows data only from smartphones....that is, even on smartphones, the vast majority of transactions are USSD/STK
@paulcurrion ...there are very strong drivers of scale on both the demand side (e.g. convenience) and supply side (e.g. venture capital), and the economic nature of digital goods + network effects always trends toward winner-take-most.
@paulcurrion So while fragmentation offers some refuge, it’s not clear to me to what extent that functional outcome can be designed into our systems and markets …..
