Communication is 🔑!
Player to Coach & Coach to Player
Have open conversations. Set goals to accomplish. Open your ears & voice your opinions. Discuss ideas & don’t be scared to disagree.
Goal is for everyone to be the best version of themselves they can be!
Coaches: No matter how big your roster is, make it a point at each practice to connect with each athlete with a simple Hi-5, hand shake, hug, etc.
It gives kids a chance to check in, even if it is just "Hi" or a quick one-liner. It instantly establishes connection & engagement.
When you punish your people for making a mistake or falling short of a goal, you create an environment of extreme caution, even fearfulness. In sports it's similar to playing 'not to lose' – a formula that often brings on defeat. – John Wooden
Coaches: The attitudes of your players directly reflects your leadership. Great coaches can teach & discipline while still encouraging great attitudes in their players. How you act toward your players determines how hard they will work for you. You are a daily influence for them.
Bill Belichick on Constructive Criticism
“I don’t know how you can improve
unless you accept constructive
criticism. I don’t know how you can
get any better.” 💯
