A new life for old coal plants 🏭☀️🔋
I wrote about how aging and defunct coal-burning power plants — squeezed out by cheaper renewables, gas & tougher emissions regulations — have become unusually valuable in the transition to zero-emissions energy.

I spent too long working on @heatpumpchic this weekend looking for pictures of heat pumps. It turns out procrastination applies to side projects too.
Anyway, here's a 🧵 of heat pumps that look like George Clooney 1/
Loved hearing @learngineer celebrate #CleanEnergyHomesDay by talking about the first step to electrifying everything in your home: Making a plan. His organization, @rewiringamerica has a great guide to help people do just that.
You don’t have to be jealous of my induction stove, because you can get one too!!😜

Today, we’re celebrating #CleanEnergyHomesDay with @EnvAm! To build a future that runs on 100% renewable energy, we have to repower our homes with clean electric appliances like heat pumps and induction cooktops. Join us from 1-2 PM ET to learn more! https://t.co/ycK9DyhVmz

I have listened to talk about "weatherizing your home" for over a decade, but I literally just did it and its NUTS how underutilized it is. You can make *enormous* efficiency gains for relatively little cost and the house gets more comfortable, too!
After U.S. cities voted for greener building codes, gas utilities gutted some of the most ambitious codes and industry lobbied to revoke governments' right to vote.
They won. Now a gas utility is meddling even more.
Advocates say it's a huge problem.

10. Advance energy efficiency initiatives. The🔑 to maximizing the benefits of an all-electric building is to make sure it is using energy as efficiently as possible. Ex: In the last year, RI, NV, & OR have passed new/updated appliance efficiency standards to reduce energy waste.
Forward-looking cities and towns across America are forging the path to electric buildings. A new guide by @EnvAm & @USPIRG shows how others can join the movement. Here's Ten Ways Your Community Can Go All-Electric, a🧵. https://t.co/6IGEMHMKJ7 #ElectrifyEverything
9. Support state & federal policy. We can make even more progress on all-electric buildings when state and federal policies are on our side. Ex: ME passed legislation that set a goal of installing 100k heat pumps by 2025. In just one year, 27k+ heat pumps were installed.
