Happy Factual Friday! According to the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, 20% of firefighters and other first responders experience PTSD at some point in their career. It is important to tend to your mental health and be mindful of others'.

Today is National PTSD Awareness Day and we at Bryx want to express the importance of mental health. PTSD can be caused by experiencing or witnessing trauma. It's okay to reach out for help if you are experiencing a mental health crisis and it's important to educate yourself!

It’s FF! One of our first customers was the Detroit Fire Department. In 2014, Detroit was facing bankruptcy and preparing for Devil’s Night. Bryx provided the 911 app for free and, after experiencing it, the DFD became the first of many to upgrade to our station alerting system.

It’s FF! Since it is Pride Month, we are highlighting an important figure to firefighting: R. Kevin Mallinson. In 1981, Mallinson became the first openly gay firefighter when he joined the Key West Fire Department. Mallinson has helped to gain greater equity for all in the field.

Happy Friday! Since May is AAPIHM, we thought an on-theme Factual Friday was needed. According to Data USA, Asian Americans accounted for 1.63% of career firefighters in 2019 while Pacific Islander Americans accounted for less than 1%.

In 2009, President Obama signed a proclamation to recognize the month of May for Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage. The celebration is meant to acknowledge the vast contributions and influences Asian & Pacific Islander Americans have made to the US. Happy AAPIHM to all!
