@eigenrobot I understand why you bang the drum about genetics mattering but I don’t like to ascribe all of my success to it. It feels like secular predestination.
@lymanstoneky Thinking about the tweet with the house from the 90s that said houses had become fungible assets just like people have. I want to be close to my family; there isn’t work for me there. I’m rewarded for uprooting my life for a better job every couple of years.
@PhilippusArabus@lymanstoneky I didn’t expect that. I think we are talking about 2 different groups. Hispanics that either are mostly European or want to assimilate will merge into American culture. Groups of high Amerindian ancestry will keep to themselves and form an ethnic enclave.
@PhilippusArabus@lymanstoneky Hispanic is an extremely broad category. Mexicans have high Amerindian admixture, but entirely German-descended Argentines are also Hispanic. Enough mixing of the small Amerindian population in with Europeans will result in a population of almost entirely European ancestry.
@KingVelesI Eating horse meat was very common in pre Christian Europe. Christianization of Europe involved removing/making taboo pagan practices; eating horse meat was one such practice.
@suchnerve Fun fact: they had to abandon plans for retrofitting a bunch of decommissioned coal plants into nuclear plants because the coal plants as-is exceeded the maximum allowable ambient radiation level for nuclear facilities.
