@hooleil is rapidly becoming my favorite food writer: eloquent, thoughtful, appropriately pithy when merited. Her take on the Japanese wasp festival: https://t.co/q2PWkIg8hT
comic review: Meal by @bluedelliquanti and @hooliel. It’s amazing. explores the intersection of traditional cultural #insectcuisine with the modern #entomophagy movement in a thoughtful and intelligent way. must-have for anyone who likes to #eatbugs.

According to Google Search Console, some ppl find Bugs for Beginners when they google “cookbooks for beginners.” Not my SEO strategy but I’d <3 to see their faces when they navigate to site and find pics of dishes w/ grasshoppers, crickets, mealworms, etc.
@hooleil @bluedelliquanti@ironcircuscomix Do you happen to know if it’s for sale anywhere in Berlin? I just checked and shipping to Germany is as much as the book!
@huwr@IlkkaTaponen In fact the reason it’s called turkey in English is because it reminded settlers of a bird that had been imported to Turkey from India. Brits associated it with Turkey bc that was their context of knowing the type of guineafowl. But yeah, sparkling chicken is better.
@SciBugs Sometimes when I’m eating s fatty pupa that tastes like bacon I think the pitch of entomophagy as a health food has limited utility, should focus on “tastes like bacon”. Your thoughts?
@CamiloWilisch @medentorose@JulieLesnik Actually people used 2 be disgusted by crustaceans. was once spelled out in contracts for crew on a ship the max times x week crew could be fed lobster, bc lobster was poor person food. Food for poor or rich is about more than taste, also abundance and culture.
@RNAeatsbugs@Jezebel@Brooklynbugs17@mega_hurt@RichJuz @thebugchef @GirlMeetsBug I don't know about you but I'd get mighty annoyed if someone kept telling me they'd only eat something so disgusting as charred cow flesh smothered in rotten mammary secretions (yum yum cheeseburger) if and only if they were about to die. Yes, you don't like my food, I get it...
@RNAeatsbugs@Jezebel@Brooklynbugs17@mega_hurt@RichJuz @thebugchef @GirlMeetsBug I'm just so tired of the apocalypse argument. That's not uplifting at all, and not even the reason a lot of #entomophagists#eatbugs. I mean how haughty does it sound to say w/ straight face "I'll eat food most of the world eats if and only if we're facing an extinction event?"
Bugs for Beginners on the Food Heroes Podcast #entomophagy episode. FHP is devoted to changing world through food (the yummiest way!) My fave is that Katie will get over her nerves and try her first #edibleinsects live on IG! Look for #MyFirstBug to see! https://t.co/g433vHt9X2
Japanese marketing team, disinterested in #entomophagy, just doing #foodtrends field research, quickly learn upon #MyFirstBug that they <3 #edibleinsects! So adorable to watch nerves turn to joy!
