We are a community+labor coalition advocating to preserve and increase access to permanently affordable quality homes, jobs, and transit for all San Diegans.
The @sheratonsd prepares to reopen their popular #SanDiego bayside hotel by firing 206 workers, many of whom had worked at the hotel for decades. Affected workers are asking who will be replacing them? #BringBackThe206#ShameOnSheraton2020
"The only local organization expressing opposition Tuesday was the Build Better San Diego Coalition, a progressive coalition that lobbies for lower- and middle-income housing." https://t.co/4XbyAlnLOC
“@SDCityCouncil is set to vote Tuesday on Council President @GGomezD9’s proposal to force developers to pay for or build more low-income #housing as part of their projects. Gómez says the time for negotiating is over.” https://t.co/7v2zsvPK3c
So apartment construction is slowing because rents are not rising fast enough for developers?
Supply side trickle-down does not work in housing, as with most other life essentials. https://t.co/mXoJSsXIgw
“Build Better San Diego, an advocacy group for affordable housing, expressed skepticism that such incentives and other recent legislation that rely on for-profit developers can make a significant difference in local housing affordability.” https://t.co/M1aOAcmdC4
.@BuildBetterSD was there too to ensure incentives were targeted at the real need. Until there is an alternative housing delivery model incentivizing private developers is one of our limited options. Next up, new language will be drafted for City Council consideration.
Thank you to my colleagues, @CirculateSD, @SDHFtweets, SD Housing Commission, BIA, and Planning Dept. staff for your support of my middle income housing proposal. It is vital that we increase the housing supply in San Diego and provide opportunities for middle-income families
[THREAD] A year ago, a housing policy was forwarded by the Mayor and the Building Industry Association (BIA), and it's coming back to the #SanDiego City Council Land Use & Housing Committee today, chaired by @vivianmorenoSD, with @ChrisWardD3, @CMJenCampbell, & @ShermanSD7. 1/
Some of these trade positions that are opening, with the training they provide in apprenticeship programs, are almost like four-year college degree. You earn as you learn and you graduate without any debt. https://t.co/c62zuPnuu2
We’re glad to announce the resolution of our lawsuit against @CivicSanDiego & @CityofSanDiego: “It’s taken a long time but there’s finally an ability to weigh in with elected officials on developments in our communities, & that is what the people of San Diego need and deserve.”
We strongly support a higher, stronger inclusionary housing policy for the City of San Diego, and are heartened to see that data demonstrates that they are effective at increasing affordable housing stock without negatively impacting overall production. #HousingForAll
“The most highly regarded empirical evidence suggests that inclusionary housing programs can produce affordable housing and do not lead to significant declines in overall housing production or to increases in market-rate prices.” @GGomezD9 Now is the time. https://t.co/Kfqe39imkB
@MeanestBossEver@sdmts When the @sdmts website boasts so clearly about having one of the highest fare box recovery ratios (e.g. profits from rider fares) in its class, it seems like you might be onto something, Ben.
This story feels impossible but is actually real. Anyone in any position to influence public policy and the implementation of public works projects should read this. We can be as good as this, all the time. #CommunityBenefitsAgreements#PublicWorks#Infrastructure#MakeItMatter
The challenge for San Diego's working class is finding work that will allow them to support their families and a viable means for commuting when the only housing they can afford is often in neighborhoods much further away. #TransitJusticeIsWorkerJustice https://t.co/oMnlT6fP4t
Today, I agendized a proposed 2019 City Council Workplan for discussion at the Tuesday, January 29 City Council Meeting. Read my proposal at https://t.co/oZYKl6UU0n
New City Council President @GGomezD9 just laid out what she'd like to see the City Council prioritize this year. 👇
