Does fidelity work in learning design? Too often I think it reminds me of IKEA.
Recently went to IKEA and followed the path until we picked out a “big girl bed” for my youngest.
It took me 3+ hours to follow those directions and build that bed. At the end of that time we had a bed and I felt a sense of accomplishment for finishing the task/project.
My daughter was happy and I felt it was money well spent.
Did I learn anything though? No.
Do I now know how to build a bed? No.
I do know how to follow directions. I was compliant during the process. But the only transfer that happened was realizing following directions makes a task like that easier.
How often do our kids follow the directions with little learning or transfer to demonstrate on the other side of a task or learning experience?
Now imagine if I had a robot/AI at home to follow the directions and build it for me…
Day 2 of the Build Math Minds Virtual Summit! Starting this Sunday morning off learning about Problem Strings. I love learning about how to get students thinking and talking about math! @BuildMathMinds@CFISDLieder@cfisdmath@pwharris
How did you spend your weekend? Many of our dedicated elementary teachers spent their weekend learning at the @BuildMathMinds Virtual Summit! #rsdmathrocks
So excited for my favorite PD of the year for math! Build Math Minds Virtual Summit @BuildMathMinds I always learn so much! Looking forward to the opening keynote from Peter Liljedahl and Meagan Giroux @pgliljedahl@CFISDLieder@cfisdmath
Spoiler Alert‼️don’t swipe if you plan to attend @AlishaZare session tomorrow at the Virtual Math Summit. I don’t want to influence your own sketches. Learn how to help S’s with math vocab by sketching their meanings. If you aren’t signed up, register at https://t.co/ss1xYvUFn2

I don’t like getting sucked into social media apps so I don’t get on here often, but when I do I always find gems. Can’t wait for my order of @joyfulmaths games to get here! Who has used these? What do you think of them?
My favorite slide from one of my favorite talks at @NCTM. One of the biggest challenges facing math teachers (whether they know it or not!) is turning wrong answers into learning. Behold! The Super Wrong, Kinda Right continuum. /by @ottensam https://t.co/r6VuU0AY5t
Another fantastic presentation from @ddmeyer at #NCTMCHI24 that's challenging me to rethink our unspoken contract with students about our relationship with being wrong or right. 👏
I’m ready @BuildMathMinds for the start of this book study! I enjoyed digging into this book this week at the beach and can’t wait to learn from others on implementing these routines and ideas this coming year! Anyone else doing this book study? @JohnSanGiovanni
