I always think of gesture as asymmetry. Both in the pose itself, like the tilt between ribcage and pelvis will always create a natural asymmetry, but also in the individual limbs. Upper leg is a good example. Long vs short, C vs a straight (I), S curve against a C.
this is an incredibly effective way to understand the difference between a "form shadow" and "cast shadow". many (east) asian artists will hyper-differentiate between the two and assign large hue variations to get a blend of cold/warm within the SAME value grouping.
