Burbank is home to some of the wealthiest media corporations and studios in the world, and these same businesses are refusing to give their workers meal breaks, adequate sleep, and living wages.
We stand in solidarity with IATSE members fighting for better working conditions & fair wages. If Burbank is truly “the media capital of the world,” then these corporations and studios must treat their workers with dignity and respect. Today is the last day to cast your YES vote!
Tuesday’s vote confirms what we’ve BEEN saying: this campaign is about workers vs. bosses, regular people vs. billionaires. And now it’s clear whose side the City Council is on. (4/5)
But the campaign was prepared for this. Tax Amazon Burbank has planned for months to write our OWN Amazon Tax ballot measure to bring to a direct vote. (3/5)
Only Konstantine Anthony voted in favor of these measures, paid for by a tax on Amazon & Big Business.
Our campaign volunteers are disappointed, but we’re not surprised. We’ve known that elected officials are more loyal to Big Business in this city than to working people. (2/5)
📣📣📣 On Tuesday night, Burbank City Council voted AGAINST funding schools, AGAINST providing rent and utilities relief for individuals and small businesses, AGAINST building affordable housing, and AGAINST paying for mental health services. (1/5)
