Usually making something, laughing at something or regretting something I’ve said. Apparently I have talents. Please don’t make it awkward. Wednesdayite. 💙
I'm not the best at social media, it's like a full time job to do it right and I already have 2 of those! I do, however, want to share something with my 67 followers.
Last Christmas I released a Christmas book that I wrote and illustrated about Sheffield at Christmas.
It's called 'Neet b'fore Christmas in Sheffield' you might already own it or have seen in a few shops last year or even heard my dulcet tones on BBC Radio Sheffield.
The book is back in stock and can be bought from a few places already, including my website.
I'll also be doing a reading at the Cathedral in December. More to come about that!
Where to buy.
https://t.co/aCXk7dDxU3
Sheffield Cathedral
Annie Jude's - Hillsborough
Hendersons Relish - online
Do NOT buy from Amazon, they claim to sell it but they have no stock and won't be getting any!
If you fancy a new Christmas ritual and supporting a local lass, please consider adding it to your Christmas reading list this year.
@tpleach76 It's not that bad till Wednesday lose! Wow, there's some venom on here tonight! I mean, I watched the match. I can see why there's frustration. Maybe you need to point me in the direction of some balanced views 😂😂😂
Anyone that's recently started following me after the Pride of Yorkshire event, I'm genuinely sorry there's nothing to see here! Maybe I need to start using it now?
Thanks for the love and comments!
Support the Children's Hospital charity as much as you can, there's still merch you can buy on their website 🤍💙🦉
@storchyowl@swfc David, please don’t worry about my name! Your words mean so much.
Knowing the lions will have a home at Hillsborough, reminding people of the hospital’s incredible work, is more than I could have hoped for.
I’d be absolutely delighted to meet you. Thank you, truly. 💙🦉
I’m not quite sure where to begin. 💙🦁
Last night was something I don’t think I’ll ever forget.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend the @POY_Trail at the Crucible as I’m away, but I listened live with friends, and by the end of it we all had tears streaming down our faces.
It certainly wasn’t the ending I’d imagined when I first picked up a paintbrush to begin creating my Sheffield Wednesday lion and lioness.
When I was asked to create these pieces for @SheffChildrens , it was an absolute honour. But for me, this was never simply an art project.
It was personal. Incredibly personal.
I’m a lifelong @swfc supporter. Football is in our blood, and our club has been part of our family’s story through the good times and the difficult ones.
But Sheffield Children’s Hospital is also a huge part of our story.
My son spent the first four months of his life in hospital after being born extremely prematurely. Over the years, he’s been what we affectionately call a frequent flyer at Sheffield Children’s, undergoing numerous operations and receiving care from the most remarkable people. They have saved his life more than once.
So to be given the opportunity to bring together two institutions that mean so much to my family was something truly special.
I poured my heart into every detail of those lions. Every brushstroke was created with pride, love and a real understanding of what both the club and the hospital mean to the people of Sheffield.
And then came last night.
To hear the auction unfold, to see the generosity shown, and to learn that our new Sheffield Wednesday chairman, @storchyowl , had purchased the lion was overwhelming enough.
But to then read his heartfelt public commitment to supporting Sheffield Children’s Hospital, his words about the club, its community and its future, and his incredibly kind recognition of my artwork… well, I’m still trying to take it all in.
For me, a football club is about so much more than 90 minutes on a Saturday afternoon. It’s about belonging. It’s about generations of families, shared memories, pride in where we come from and standing together when things get tough.
We’ve certainly had our share of tough times at Wednesday.
But we believe in our club. We believe in its future. And to have people at the helm who recognise that the heart of a football club is the community surrounding it gives me enormous hope for what comes next.
To think that my artwork will continue to be part of Hillsborough, part of our club’s next chapter, and a reminder of the extraordinary work carried out every day at Sheffield Children’s Hospital fills me with a pride I can’t adequately put into words.
Thank you to everyone who has followed the lions’ journey, stopped to admire them, taken photographs, shared lovely comments or supported the auction.
Thank you to Children’s Hospital and Charity and the Pride of Yorkshire Trail team for trusting me with such a meaningful project.
And a heartfelt thank you to David Storch for his generosity, his lovely words and, most importantly, his commitment to a hospital that means the world to so many families, including mine.
I’m just a Sheffield lass who loves her football, loves her city and loves creating things. To have been part of something like this is an honour I’ll never forget.
Here’s to the future, to our wonderful hospital, to our city and to Sheffield Wednesday.
We’re all Wednesday, aren’t we. 💙🦉
I’m genuinely struggling to find the words.
I wasn’t able to attend the auction in person as I’m away, but I listened live with friends, and by the end we all had tears streaming down our faces. It certainly wasn’t the ending I’d imagined.
I feel an immense sense of pride and privilege to have been entrusted with creating these pieces. I poured my heart into them, not just as an artist, but as a lifelong Sheffield Wednesday supporter, a proud Sheffielder and a mum whose family owes so much to Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
My son spent the first four months of his life in hospital, and over the years has been a frequent flyer at Sheffield Children’s. They have saved his life more than once. So this was never just about painting two lions. It was about two things that mean the world to our family coming together.
Football is in our blood. Sheffield Wednesday is part of who we are, through the good times and the difficult ones. We are proud of our club, proud of our city and we believe in what the future can hold.
To hear such a heartfelt commitment from our new chairman, not just to the football club but to the community at its heart, means an enormous amount.
A football club is so much more than what happens on the pitch. It’s the people, the families, the generations and the community that make it what it is.
With people who understand that, and genuinely believe in both the club and the city it represents, the future has the potential to be something incredible.
Thank you for your generosity, your kind words and, most importantly, for supporting a hospital that means so much to so many of us.
I’m incredibly proud that my artwork will be part of that story.
We’re all Wednesday, aren’t we. 💙🦉
At the @SheffChildrens auction last night before auctioning off the Sheffield Wednesday Lion the gentleman introducing expressed hope that the new owners of @swfc would support the Children’s Hospital which the prior owner hadn’t.
Please know that for as long as I remain the proud Chairman and owner of our amazing club, @swfc + me will be reliable patrons of @SheffChildrens. Their work is so important… I will always support their efforts as they work tirelessly to provide world class treatment and care today + long into the future for the kids + families who depend on them. I stand alongside @bazzabannan25 and his incredible support for @SheffChildrens.
@SheffChildrens is a very important part of the broader Sheffield community which has been kind to embrace @michaelestorch and me, plus our friend Tom Costin and the investors he brought along as we together with the telented and committed team @swfc work day and night to return the club to its historic glory. And make no mistake… we will!
When passing or entering our beloved Hillsborough, I invite each and everyone of you as you gaze at the beautiful artistry of Zoe Burger and her Sheffield Wednesday Lion and Lioness you stop for a moment and think of the kids + families who depend on the Hospital and the remarkable staff that works there, stop for a moment, say a prayer or two for successful outcomes everyday.
The work they do @SheffChildrens is so important… it is my honor to show my support by purchasing the Lions+ more. I do so with my own 10 grandchildren in mind .
I’d also like to recognize the incredible artistry of renowned artist Zoe Burger. Thank you Ms Burger.
