The founder of @n8n_io is an absolute GOAT:
> Rejected YC because they wanted him to headquarter the company in the US
> Wants to IPO the business in Europe, and ideally in Germany
> Had to politely reject one of his (american) investors' suggestion to relocate the company HQ to the US
This guy clearly loves Europe and wants to see it succeed.
It follows an interesting trend of European founders insisting on building businesses in Europe even if it's doing it on "hard mode".
In Atomico's latest "State of European Tech" report 51% of European founders reported feeling a sense of mission to build and scale their company in Europe, even if it might be harder than elsewhere.
It's something @vriparbelli at @synthesiaIO has spoken about, as well as @antonosika at @Lovable.
European Tech Nationalism is on THE RISE.
This is genuinely great to see as founders deciding to stay in Europe means more jobs here, more growth here, and more taxes paid here.
LETS GO 🇪🇺
🚨🚨🚨BREAKING: The "EU Inc." is on its way! Thanks to the extraordinary Mario #Draghi.
A single, EU-wide legal entity: the "EU version of Inc." It will include harmonized corporate law, insolvency procedure, as well as a few key aspects of labour law and taxation. Plus, there will be a one-stop shop providing every EU entrepreneur with clear set of information about all the requirements in each state.
This will be a game-changer, with harmonized rules, including labor laws and taxation which is something completely unseen so far.
Sure, these findings will need to be turned into plans by the commission. But the mere fact that this proposal is included in an official report by Mario Draghi with this wording is incredible: "harmonised legislation across Member States concerning corporate law, insolvency procedure, as well as a few key aspects of labour law and taxation, to be made progressively more ambitious."
#Draghi has literally received feedback from @levelsio, introduced by @patrickc, and executed it swiftly.
In the EU #Competitiveness Report, just presented, you can find more details on page 254 of the extended report.
Here are the key aspects of the proposal:
1. A new EU-wide legal status for startups, with harmonized legislation including labor laws and taxation. The wording explicitly calls for a progressively "more ambitious approach."
2. No need for multiple subsidiaries in each state to operate in Europe.
3. Simplified IPO rules for tech companies in Europe.
4. A one-stop shop for all necessary information in all EU languages.
As I mentioned previously, discrepancies in tax and labor laws across 27 different jurisdictions are among the main concerns to a competitive tech scene in Europe.
This proposal is truly remarkable and sets the stage for a new season of tech in Europe.
The speed at which informal proposals from EU/Acc, with @andreasklinger and @euacchq, have progressed is impressive.
Here's the extract:
"Innovative start-ups should be given the opportunity to adopt a new EU-wide legal statute called the ‘Innovative European Company’ (IEC). Adoption of the IEC status would provide companies with access to harmonised legislation across Member States concerning corporate law, insolvency procedure, as well as a few key aspects of labour law and taxation, to be made progressively more ambitious. Innovative European Companies could operate in all Member States through subsidiaries without needing to incorporate separately in each one. An innovative European Company will have a single digital identity valid throughout the EU and recognised by all Member States. Registration will be centralised at the EU level. In selected industries, certifications will be portable, and authorisations will benefit from passporting across all Member States. The portability of certifications and the passporting of authorisations will be progressively expanded to more industries as regulations become increasingly harmonised across Member States. Innovative European Companies should also get access to the simplified procedures for IPOs of high-tech companies.
To reduce the regulatory burden due to aspects not covered by the new statute, the Commission should also establish a ‘one-stop shop’ available in all official EU languages, providing information about individual states’ business requirements. The IEC statute could be adopted by Member States participating initially under enhanced cooperation or intergovernmental agreement."
Impresiona ver a Gisèle Pélicot.
