Today, millions of Ethiopians from all walks of life are flocking to the polls as the country embarks on its 7th general election. Starting at 6 AM, citizens across the nation are exercising their democratic rights, with a staggering 54 million registered voters participating in this pivotal moment for Ethiopia.

This election is a testament to Ethiopia's status as Africa's largest democracy, showcasing the engagement of its citizens through the participation of 42 political parties and 80 independent candidates. The scale of voter involvement, coupled with the remarkable political inclusivity and civic participation, highlights the growing democratic culture in Ethiopia and the strong commitment of its people to shape the nation's future through the ballot box.

International observers, including the African Union Election Observation Mission led by former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and The Head of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Election Observation Mission, Dr. Speciosa Wandira-Kazibwe are closely monitoring the election process. Their presence underscores the importance of transparency and fairness in this democratic exercise.

As Ethiopians come together to make their voices heard, this election represents not just a choice for leadership, but a collective step towards a brighter future. The commitment of the Ethiopian people to engage in the democratic process is commendable and reflects their aspirations for peace, stability, and progress.

Today, I had the distinct honor of convening a special ceremony to recognize and celebrate the exceptional dedication of the staff at the Ethiopian Embassy in Kenya. On this occasion, distinguished staff members were presented with special certificates in acknowledgment of their unwavering commitment, exemplary performance, and prompt responsiveness to national calls on various critical occasions.

During the same event, we had the great pleasure of warmly welcoming our newly assigned diplomats to the Mission. In parallel, a heartfelt appreciation and recognition program was held to honor our departing diplomats, who successfully completed their tenure at the Embassy. The event was graced by the presence of distinguished leaders of the Ethiopian community associations and esteemed members of the Ethiopian Diaspora residing in Kenya.

I wish to express my sincere and profound gratitude to all my diplomats for their sustained motivation, deep dedication, remarkable results, and their constructive response to the national calls made upon them at different times. I extend my best wishes for a rewarding and successful tenure to the newly assigned diplomats joining our Embassy, as well as to those returning home after the successful completion of their assignment.

በቀጠናችን የአፍሪካ ቀንድ የአፍሪካዊ ችግር በአፍሪካዊ መፍትሄ ለመፍታት፥ የተረጋጋ እና ሰላሙ የተጠበቀ ቀጠናን ለመፍጠር እንዲሁም ልማት እና ብልጽግና እንዲፋጠን ኢጋድ ከመቼውም ጊዜ በላይ ሁለንተናዊ አስተዋጽዖ እያበረከተና እጅግ የላቀ ሚና እየተጫወተ መሆኑ ይታወቃል። በጂግጂጋ ግንቦት 09 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም የአገራችንን ከፍተኛ የመንግስት የጸጥታ ኃላፊዎች እና ባለስልጣናትን በማሳተፍ የተካሄደው የሰላም እና ጸጥታ ምክክር (Peace and Security Dialogue) ቀጣናዊ ተግዳሮቶች በሰላም እና ጸጥታ ላይ የሚኖራቸውን አሉታዊ ተጸዕኖ ከመሰረቱ ለመገምገም ከማስቻሉም በላይ እነዚህን ተግዳሮቶች ቀጣይነት ባለው ሁኔታ ለመቅረፍ እና ዘላቂነት ያለው መፍትሄ ተግባራዊ ለማድረግ የሁሉም የባለድርሻ አካላት ጠንካራ ቅንጅት እንዲፈጠር ያስቻለ ነው። ለዚህ ምስጉን ተግባር የኢጋድ ዋና ጸሐፊ ክቡር ዶ/ር ወርቅነሀ ገበየሁ ከፍ ያለ ምስጋና ይገባቸዋል።

It is well recognized that the IGAD is playing a more comprehensive and constructive role than ever before in addressing the challenges of the Horn of Africa through African-led solutions, with the aim of fostering a stable and peaceful region while accelerating development and prosperity. The Peace and Security Dialogue held in Jigjiga on May 17, 2026 with the participation of senior government security officials and other higher officials of our country, not only provided an important platform to assess the adverse impact of regional challenges on peace and security, but also strengthened coordination among all stakeholders to continuously address these challenges and implement effective and sustainable solutions. In this regard, the Secretary-General of IGAD, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, deserves high recognition and appreciation for his commendable leadership and dedicated efforts.

I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Honorable Justice Tewodros Getachew and Honorable Justice Dr. Woubshet Shiferaw on their swearing-in today as judges of the COMESA Court of Justice at the State House in Nairobi. Ethiopia stands out as the only country to have appointed two judges to the COMESA Court of Justice. This remarkable achievement reflects not only the competence and professionalism of our judges, but also the progress and strength of our judicial system. It further underscores the government’s commitment to reforming the sector, nurturing qualified legal professionals, and strengthening the rule of law.

It is a great source of pride and joy to witness this important milestone, celebrated in the presence of distinguished leaders, including H.E. President William Ruto, Deputy President H.E. Kithure Kindiki, Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Moses Wetangula, and Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Hon. It is evident that by organizing and strengthening Ethiopians and people of Ethiopian descent, they can transcend the role of passive observers and emerge as principal actors in the ongoing journey of national development and prosperity. This collective effort will further reinforce their enduring connection with their motherland—the land of their heritage and ancestry. The relaunch of the Ethiopian and People of Ethiopian Descent Association in Kenya is grounded in the objective of safeguarding the dignity and pride of our citizens abroad, while enabling them to take a leading role in advancing investment, job creation, professional and skills transfer, as well as digital economic development in our country. Kenya is known as a country where hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians—patriotic and distinguished individuals from diverse ethnic, linguistic, and religious backgrounds—live together in unity and solidarity. It is worth noting that the umbrella association of Ethiopians and people of Ethiopian descent has been relaunched at our mission to further strengthen this unity and solidarity, and to enable them to participate more actively in the socio-economic developments of their country. Below is a statement issued by the founders of the association regarding this new association:
