The Electoral Commission says 5) National’s decision to cut the right for people to vote without pre-enrolment won’t make the vote count any quicker and will see 55,000 lose their electorate vote (and many more unable to vote at all). https://t.co/9SLAJ4fw14
Sharing!!! Dog owners who visit Auckland Botanic Gardens may want to know that Cafe Miko appears to no longer be dog-friendly in the way many of us have understood it for years.
I had a very unpleasant experience there today with our little Pomeranian, Prince. We have been going to Cafe Miko for more than 10 years, usually after walking Prince at the Gardens. Like many dog owners, we would sit outside, and Prince would quietly sit on one of the outdoor plastic chairs while we ordered coffee. He does this because if he is left on the ground, he tries to follow us inside, which we obviously understand is not permitted around a food service area.
This has never been a problem before. It has been normal practice for years, and there were other dog owners doing similar things today as well.
However, today we were told by staff that the cafe was no longer dog-friendly because “someone had complained”. After we got a refund and left, the manager confirmed by phone that this was a new policy from the new owners.
I think people should know before making the trip. Auckland Botanic Gardens is a public park with a dog-walking area, and many of us have treated Cafe Miko as the obvious post-walk coffee stop for years. If the new owners no longer want to accommodate responsible dog owners in the outdoor area, that is useful information for the community to have.
Prince has never caused any issue there, and we have supported the cafe for years. After today, we will be taking our business elsewhere.

ACT Health spokesperson Todd Stephenson is welcoming the Health Minister's refusal to reappoint the Medical Council’s chair and deputy chair, saying the decision is a necessary reset for a regulator that was putting ideology ahead of patient wellbeing.
“Doctors raised the alarm with ACT about draft Medical Council guidance that would have required them to develop knowledge of ‘colonial histories’, examine ‘privilege’, and challenge the ‘dominant culture’ of the health system,” says Todd Stephenson.
“ACT listened, in February I wrote to the Minister, and now we are seeing action.
“The Medical Council's planned guidance on cultural competence, cultural safety, and Hauora Māori risked embedding political ideology into the standards doctors must meet. The Medical Council's approach also threatened the health system's delivery of health services on the basis of need, not race – a Coalition commitment secured by ACT.
“Professional regulators need to stay in their lane. The Medical Council should be laser-focused on patient safety and clinical competence. It is not there to impose contested political narratives on the medical profession.
“People often ask what the Government is doing to get equal rights, equal dignity, and non-discrimination back into the public service. This is a clear example. Guidance was being developed for the Medical Council saying doctors needed to examine privilege and challenge culture, instead of focusing on being good doctors. Now we have a chance in leadership.
“New leadership should translate to a change in direction. I'm urging the Medical Council to withdraw the draft cultural safety guidance entirely.
“ACT will continue to stand up for equal rights, equal dignity, and non-discrimination in public services. In healthcare, that means treating patients according to clinical need, not race or ideology."
@JohnJCampbell pull your head in. The below post is apt whose tax do you think is paying you? @nzfirst defund these biased supposed journalists. I'm centrist and I don't think he adds any value.
45% of Swiss people voted to cap their population at 10 million over the weekend. 55% voted against so it didn't pass.
Radio NZ presenter John Campbell called this 45% portion of the Swiss population "far right" & "xenophobic" when discussing the poll this morning.
Mr Campbell should realise he's employed by the taxpayer, & refrain from his constant use of unjustified & pejorative terms. To smear those who disagree with him.
He should exercise some restraint or go find a job at a private broadcaster.
🚨Erdogan's Turkey: A stark warning on authoritarian power crushing dissent and families. This header captures the top concerns backed by global watchdogs - arbitrary detentions, mass purges, press crackdowns and more that tear communities apart.
- Arbitrary Detention of critics and journalists on flimsy grounds
- Anti-Terror Laws weaponised against opposition
- Mass Post-2016 Purges hitting tens of thousands including teachers
- Torture and ill-treatment in detention
- Brutal Suppression of Press Freedom
- Removal of elected mayors especially Kurds
- Violent Crackdowns on protests
- Politicised courts targeting rivals

UK has massive issues, EU is the same. Let's not let this country go there. Don't vote for those like @nzlabour@nzgreens@nznationalparty@act who voted for the Indian FTM agreement. They supposedly did it without reading it what sort of people do that? Certainly not ones that give a shit about you!!!
The Verbatim Transcript of Rob the UK caller. "Morning, Jess. On me way to work as normal. Listen to you talk about the thing that happened in Belfast last night, all the unrest.
Well yes, rightly, you shouldn't condone what happened. What else have people got to do? They're not listening.
The political class aren't listening. These people who are coming over here illegally, they're rapists, terrorists. They're, they're coming over here, it's literally like putting a wolf in a sheep field.
You are giving them a target-rich environment. You haven't vetted them. You've done nothing.
All you've done is dumped them in a place where they can wreak havoc. Where they come from, guess what? There's no law.
They can do literally whatever they like. They come over here, there's lawyers, of course, taxpayer funded, they get a nice cushy home, running water, Sky TV, gym memberships, bus passes.
They can literally go where they want and create havoc. And when they do, the people that foisted them upon us, guess what? They say, Don't get upset. Don't do anything. Don't go out and cause unrest.
Well, I'll tell you what, mate. Stop reaping, then you might not have to sow it, because this country is absolutely on the edge. They can't take much more of people getting stabbed, raped, blown up.
You name it. You've foisted it upon us for the last twenty five, thirty years. Ever since Blair said, I'm gonna rub your noses in it, well, guess what?
What goes around comes around, and I think the political class have got a very, very, very big smack on the nose coming."

Winston Peters "Keep Hope Alive" Speech - Cambridge Town Hall 14 June 2026
Winston Peters delivered a powerful "Keep Hope Alive" speech at the NZ First public meeting in Cambridge Town Hall on 14 June 2026, exposing Labour's weak policies and highlighting real solutions for cost of living and sovereignty.
• New candidates announced including Nicola Laboyrie in Hamilton East, Lee Smith in Taranaki-King Country, Kevin Stone in Hamilton West, and Hon Casey Costello for Port Waikato.
• Strong critique of Labour's "free" public transport and doctor visits as taxpayer-funded gimmicks that shift funds and increase debt without real relief.
• NZ First policies tackle root issues: breaking up power companies, splitting supermarket duopoly, state-owned bank, royalties to regions, KiwiSaver for newborns, and New Zealand Future Fund.
• Detailed opposition to the unbalanced India FTA including UNDRIP clause, migration impacts, and minimal GDP benefit, urging voters to reject the current government's failures.
For full NZ First policies, vetos, and introduced initiatives see AerialKiwi's detailed article here: https://t.co/fUxKZBa4jJ which outlines key safeguards and positions.

Vote @nzfirst ♥️✔️✔️
TOP wants to tax your grandma thousands per year because they think property appreciation is "making money".
"Ah well they can always downsize". To what? A coffin?
This is Marxism.
Labour just wants to hand out “free stuff” like Oprah.
It took two and a half years, a bonfire of useless old policy, a lame excuse to wait for the budget, and all Labour could come up with was ‘capping public transport costs’…but just for some people…just in some areas…just for some things.
Labour says public transport will only cost up to $20 a week then it’s free. Newsflash: nothing is ever “free”.
“Free” actually means taxpayers pay for it - because whether Labour understands it or not, money doesn’t grow on trees. And guess what. People who are riding on public transport are the taxpayers who are going to pay for it.
Labour’s big plan is to move $65m from the National Land Transport Fund to pay for it all. That automatically means something else that money was already allocated to will now not be paid for - or they have to either borrow more or tax you more.
They already said they want everyone to get three “free” doctor’s visits as well.
It’s starting to sound like an Oprah Winfrey episode where everyone gets free stuff handed out. You get one, you get one, everyone gets one!
Just in the last few months NZFirst has already announced policies on breaking up the power companies, splitting the supermarket duopoly, establishing a competitive state owned bank, returning royalties to the regions, creating a KiwiSaver generation for newborns and increasing contributions, establishing a NZ Future Fund…and there are many more coming.
Those are what you call real policies that tackle the cost of living issues for kiwis and start to build a country we are all proud of.
Labour just wants to hand out “free stuff” like Oprah.
