@mcrs987@MoneyPhosphorus@ScottLikedSLS I clarified it in comments that you said 35 to 50 tons. Just been annoyed with everyone taking it as a fact that the payload was 45t+, basing it off the simlink weight which we dont know.
@SolidLOL1@ScottLikedSLS Yes thats what most people thought. But actually, they expicitly changed the flight description. Previously it said that the payload is the size and mass of Starlink V3 now it just says they are of the same size (+simlinks on this flight were visibly different).
+ This
@Jeff153143@ScottLikedSLS We dont know how heavy the simlinks were. So we cant know the payload number. The simlinks were visibly different from the last ones, without chassis, just empty steel bars. So they are most likely way <2t.
@SolidLOL1@ScottLikedSLS The point is, we dont know heavy the simlinks were. Most likely they were <2t. So its probably not near 40t.
And the other point: "with optimizations", no v3 was clearly presented to be 100t, so unless you mean very minor ones, this would be a new version, which will be a while.
@ScottLikedSLS@HipernovaStar@javeenyt2 Yea I agree with you in principle. To be fair he said "anything between 35t and 50t". He also said 35t might not be accurate for V2 and should have been updated post flight 11 (but it didnt)
I guess we will see if they put smth near 100t into orbit with current V3.
@ScottLikedSLS@HipernovaStar@javeenyt2 Its pretty much consensus they were below 2t this flight. TSE has his reasons for his estimate although I would be shocked if hes correct this time (which is likely given his track record tbh)
@ScottLikedSLS True but at the same time it is also expected of them. I would have been very shocked if they (or any other rocket company) didnt account for that
@Lunnzies@otherside_X42 Mass savings on Stage 1 are never 1 to 1 more payload. For Stage 2 sure. Also, many components, especially on booster are now heavier. Tiles are thicker as well compared to V1 afaik, so thats a few tons. New plumbing is also heavier.
So uh, what is Waymo to you then? Waymo is very obviously safety-monitored, they even have support agents chiming in for every high-risk situation like school buses. That is not secret information and officially acknowledged by them. So by your definition, Waymo is Level 2 and not unsupervised?
@CutlassLegacy@ogschrammi Die Version ist exakt dieselbe wie die original geplante. Das Lenkrad ist einfach notdürftig eingebaut und kann entfernt werden sobald alle Staaten das regularisch zulassen.
Yea I disagree. Imo theres no point in going with a simple lander first. It was done with Apollo. Theres not much to gain from it compared with going all-in on a more capable lander. All these challenges need to get solved (refueling, high cadence of tankers, docking, ...) anyway so why not do it now.
