Former president of @JohnsHopkins on reading in 1901: “Reading is a kind of craze that has gotten hold of the people. It is a dangerous habit, like a stimulant. The publishers are constantly putting forth new attractions in the field & the reviewers excite our appetite."
Man, post election discourse is like someone telling you "The Oscars are rigged—everyone knows they only give it to the movie that makes the most money!" It's a combination of being blatantly wrong, smug, and also, we're somehow on nearly the same side and it sucks.
It was @KarisaGH1989 birthday yesterday, and while we weren't able to have a party this year, there was no shortage of people who wanted to wish her a happy birthday and celebrate Karisa for everything she does.
Happy birthday!

@DillBeWitt @MarquisGovan1 I can't say if this was on the table—Israel's own illegal actions limited its options—but I can be fairly confident that the lack of leadership meant it wasn't even tried. Blind shows of force in the hopes it could cover up their own insecurity state.
@DillBeWitt @MarquisGovan1 careful planning and diplomatic leverage. More targeted strikes within the parameters of the RBIO and using 10/7 as a means to leverage Qatar, or Arab states to lean on Qatar, to expel Hamas leadership could have isolated Hamas and kept the matter one of law.
@DillBeWitt @MarquisGovan1 There are a lot of questions of what would have worked and what the Israeli public would have tolerated, same for what could have happened after 9/11. But it's hard to look at Israel's current situation and say it reflects an effective strategy, much less a moral one.
@DillBeWitt @MarquisGovan1 I think a pretty obvious thing that should have happened in the past year was Bibi's resignation. The worst pogrom of the modern era happened under his watch and largely from his policy decisions. He's also strategically hampered Israel considerably because of his legal situation
This attitude of "the people must be punished to discipline them into my politics" is just fascism from the point of view of a man too pathetic and timid to actually try and do it himself and just hopes to live vicariously through fascist violence.
It seems to me Harris needs to lose, as signaling via her election that the heinous actions of the Biden-Harris administration are fine would be further disaster.
@lonesometoast If The Simpsons has taught me anything, it's that you can always end on "Screw Flanders" repeated as many times as you need for word count.
