Framing North America as Americans versus Canadians is as reductive of the two modern nations' realities as it is towards the native peoples who cared not for the 49th parallel before we showed up and manifested it there like a big cartographic horoscope.
Likewise, Canadians & Americans in the Upper Mid-West, PNW, Upstate NY and New England have more in common than either of them do with people thousands of miles away on the same side of the 49th parallel, many of whom live in deserts and bayous or even speak a different language.

Plus, if we've learned anything from the history of the British & Irish Isles more than anywhere on Earth, it's that unions are not always real unions. There are personal, supranational, federal, unitary. You can't understand the history of the archipelago without it.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. People think a Celtic Union is a stupid idea but three to five (depending on your persuasion) closely related nations small enough not to dominate one another being in an equal partnership is less stupid idea than being ruled from London.

Same is true of independence/separatist-movements across the world. Maybe Scotland leaves the UK and Orkney & Shetland leave Scotland and join the Nordic Council. The key is maintaining freedom-of-movement arrangements, which within the Free World shouldn't actually be that hard.

And if three quarters of the map staying Canadian while one quarter going its own way promises to be such a mess that it brings us to compromise to avoid the headache, that's good too.

If Alberta wants to leave Canada, by the right of self-determination, it can. However, if individual Albertan counties elect to stay in Canada, they can. This goes down to the municipal level & city-states, and ultimately, the right of an individual to renounce one's citizenship.

Hero.
Exposed the reality of Soviet gulag system in the '70s.
Reminder that he ended up re-settling in Vermont as a refugee and the mayor of Burlington refused to meet with him because it would make his honeymoon destination look bad. @BernieSanders

@Wealthsimple is the best thing to happen to 'banking' in generations.
Perhaps since the Medici, which is high praise coming from a Renaissance historian...
Shame it's still limited to Canada but don't want to lose its Amazonian nimbleness in an expansion...

Dodd-Frank was meant to prevent another financial crisis. Instead, new bank formations fell from 149 a year before 2008 to just 5 a year in 2011–2025. Excessive regulation hurts small banks, limits competition, explains Jeb Hensarling.

Less than 5% of humanity would even be eligible for USUBI. 50%+ of humanity could get Google UBI right in to their Google Wallets. Repeat for $AAPL, $MSFT, $META and of course $AMZN.
Though on the flipside, this is arguably exactly how UBI should go. Why funnel all the runaway profits through the government middleman to get lost in more waste, fraud and abuse when we can pay out a dividend to the billions worldwide who already use their services...?

Every supercompany that makes up the Mag 7 should do this for every child born in the world. Then, we'll see how value-creation really does make economics not a zero-sum game.
Would've been even better if we did it years ago before the AI boom changes the definition of money...

It’s been 50 years since I built the Apple I. We’re
sharing a little of that history to help Inspiring
Children Foundation, a cause Janet and I care about
very much. This collection is limited to 3,000
garments.

Prediction is 20%+ unemployment by 2030, though*, and only then will the ossified political class likely be cattle-prodded in to doing something about UBI.

I wonder if the people who agree with @JensenHuang are the same people who violate Hitch's razor to assert that we 'can't prove' the non-existence of gods...
Even in the absurdest of likelihoods, the probability is never 0%...
