@RoyPattison@l8261665_@AlanRichar6162 All true, But there also was a stability prices did not rise and players worth was largely consistent. CR7 & Bale transfers pushed us to now it’s £100. But the £15 mil for Shearer was a seismic change it was our league showing we had cash to pay players who would play in Europe
@thespursweb Going to be a tough game, I like Keith Andrews interested to see how Brentford go this year.
Team looks similar to last home friendly.
Just hoping to see something positive and progress
@Boethius_3@AlanRichar6162 Look what happened to Blackburn ran out of money sold to bad owners and never really recovered.
That’s the point of putting in the restrictions Don’t like what Chelsea and city have done. And the reason they escape punishment is that they bring revenue to PL and weak leadership
@PhilHook71@AlanRichar6162 Completely agree Zidane £50mil seemed crazy money then CR7 and Bale in the high 80,s showed there was no turning back. And now decent midfielders are going prices that are higher then that. But at the time £15million moved the needle
@junkenstein72@AlanRichar6162 If I was old enough to care back then I imagine I would be in the games gone mad group😂 But Francis move didn’t move the needle in the same way Not saying you got your moneys worth with Alan of course you but the fee started the ball rolling on modern day transfers
@SullyBennett@AlanRichar6162 £8.5mil Collymore Forest to Liverpool British record
Lentini £13mil Torino to Milan
European record which stood since 92 before Shearers world record fee.
@bets_cuff@AlanRichar6162 I agree I don’t think the rules are fair but if your owners spend big and it for whatever reason doesn’t work out and they pull out where does that leave you? Growth must be sustainable We have the same worry that we get sold to someone like the Glazers and get stripped of cash
@WTOS_Pod@AlanRichar6162 Almost as ridiculous as crying a club spending what they can afford. But yet here we are and it’s not even us that’s the problem
@abell0509@AlanRichar6162 We didn’t have the financial power to spend £15 back then and as for Armstrong had to pay over inflated price due to the market rising due to a club with more money spending power
@steviebronco1@AlanRichar6162 Didn’t say it was a bad investment, just it simply moved the needle on what money was needed to compete I agree no player is worth £100mil
@Christianjw92 Newcastle Shepherds sold to Ashley he fucked them
Aston Villa Ellis sold to Learner? He fucked them
Everton Kenwrite did his best but didn’t have enough cash to really compete
Spurs brought buy an investment group with a long term strategy for club ground and surrounding area
@HopwoodNorm@abell0509@AlanRichar6162 I kinda agree with Jordon I guess the issue is what happens after five years and the club hasn’t got where it needs to be. I don’t think we could implement the Marquee strategy here far to down the track for that. Biggest worry with more US owners is that they love franchises
@HopwoodNorm@abell0509@AlanRichar6162 I guess the only issue with that is other leagues around the world would all need to agree to salary caps or our best talent and others would head to those leagues, realistically they might as well let clubs spend what they want if they go under, that’s the clubs problem
@HopwoodNorm@abell0509@AlanRichar6162 I completely agree, the problem is the PL opened Pandora’s box and now it’s proving difficult to shut, UEFA has a lot to answer for also.
They brought these rules in to protect the old lady clubs from Europe once smaller clubs were getting brought up and qualifying for CL
@r0sco1@AlanRichar6162 Yes you had a great team but the Shepherds couldn’t sustain it due to the rising costs. Ashley destroyed what was built to line his own pockets
