The second PBO report is crystal clear. We are screwed.
Debt-service costs are the fastest-growing federal expense:
$25B five years ago → $59.3B this year (already larger than the Canada Health Transfer) → $83B in five years. Pure interest, paid before anything else.
Real cash borrowing over five years: $733B.
New debt from deficits: only $333B.
The ~$400B gap is parked with Crown corporations, loans and special funds — a step removed from parliamentary oversight. New risks, less transparency.
PBO Annette Ryan: the government’s fiscal “anchors” provide “very little” discipline. More like traffic lights. Capital spending gets a green light. Operating spending a yellow at best. “It’s not stopping spending.”
Carney (like Trudeau) keeps telling us everything is fine.
Meanwhile real GDP growth is cut to 0.9% this year. Deficits stay above $63B for years. Debt-to-GDP keeps rising. They rewrite how they report the books so the headlines look pretty while the actual liability grows off-books. Taxpayers get the interest bill.
Facts need to be facts. Stop the accounting games. Stop the spending now. This cannot continue.
