Introducing Scaling Safety - @CBPS_Collective@SafeandJustUSA 🏘️
Despite billions spent on US public safety, residents in low-income communities of color are 15 times more likely to be victimized by crime and 3 times less likely to get help than residents in wealthier areas. True public safety begins with community empowerment.
Scaling Safety has an Audacious idea to put the "public" back in “public safety,” by accelerating the growth and development of resident-powered prevention programs.
Over the next five years, Scaling Safety will provide technical support, flexible resources, and advocacy for resident-powered programs in five major US cities: Austin, Texas; Cleveland, Ohio; Jackson, Mississippi; Miami, Florida; and Tucson, Arizona. The goal is to scale up these programs to double access to help for the most vulnerable residents, reduce violence by up to 50%, integrate these programs within cities' safety ecosystems, and improve life for the over 2.5 million people who live in these areas overall.

Mental health crises shouldn't be met with force. It's a fact: individuals with mental health disabilities are 16 times more likely to die during an encounter with law enforcement.
Our communities need trained professionals who can de-escalate situations and provide support. On #WorldMentalHealthDay, let's continue to advocate for community-based public safety solutions that prioritize CVI crisis response teams and access to mental health care.

“Gun violence is a health issue—like in communities where I come from, there’s a lack of education, of opportunities, of health. We need time to heal. And once we heal, we can learn. We can be successful." — Francisco DePina @Uncornered https://t.co/iWPebNCwXQ
