Professor at the Appleton Institute (CQUniversity).
Main research interests are sleep loss and circadian disruption - causes, consequences, and countermeasures.
If you are a member of the Working Time Society @WorkTimeSociety, and you wish to connect with other members, please like this tweet. Then we will have a consolidated list of WTS members that we all can use to add to our following lists.
See you soon in Coeur d'Alene!

@AcademicChatter I am a Professor at CQUniversity.
Frontiers Physiology has a special issue on optimising performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Our paper has guides regarding daily timing of light exposure/avoidance, exogenous melatonin, and exercise to minimise #jetlag.

Are you planning to attend the ASA's annual conference - Sleep DownUnder 2019? https://t.co/GpdHW1O8HC
The Breakfast Symposia Sessions and Short Courses have now been added to the program...
Ideally suited to members of #WTS_ICOH#ACS_Chrono#ASA_Chrono#ASA_OHSP
We are pleased to announce Breakfast Symposia Sessions and Short Courses have been added to the Sleep DownUnder 2019 program. You’ll find more details under the Program tab on the Meeting website https://t.co/jAfrV7fd5R #SDU19
A job opportunity exists for a lecturer in sleep medicine with the Medical Sciences Division at the University of Oxford...
Ideally suited to members of #WTS_ICOH#ACS_Chrono#ASA_Chrono
Some sleep hygiene guides recommend against evening exercise - but here we show that 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise ending 90 minutes before bed does not interfere with night-time sleep (at least in healthy, young, adult males).

Earlybrid closes May 15!
Come join the WTS's next scientific meeting - "Innovations in Research and Practice for Improving Shiftworker Health & Safety".
A great way to hear about the latest research and to meet current/emerging research leaders.

Reminder!! May 15 is the last day for early bird registration for the 24th WTS Symposium, to be held September 9–13, 2019 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, USA. We'd love to see you there! https://t.co/R5PWOyEEiT #WTS_ICOH#Shiftwork2019 https://t.co/Y3FqqlXECb
A PhD scholarship is available at CQUniversity's Appleton Institute @CQUni_Appleton in the area of physical activity / health.
This one will be based in Rockhampton (in tropical QLD), not Adelaide.
Ideally suited to student members of #WTS_ICOH#ACS_Chrono#ASA_Chrono#ASA_OHSP
This #PhD#scholarship is still open, not much interest for it to date, it must only be us nerds who are interested in that topic, please retweet (to be clear: this scholarship comes with an annual stipend of $27,500AUD per year for 3 years!)
Yes good point!
In the paper, we argued there are two main reasons why it is difficult to substantially advance bedtime:
1. the requirement and/or desire to spend time with family/friends
2. the presence of a physiological 'forbidden zone' for sleep in the evening

I wonder, why the conclusion is not if you have early morning sessions, you'd better adjust your lifestyle so that you get enough sleep.
Sleep or Swim? Early-morning training severely restricts the amount of sleep obtained by elite swimmers https://t.co/67TKrB0f38
What is more important for health - an extra hour of sleep or an extra hour of exercise? https://t.co/4IMfkELb3Q
This baby has found a way to do both at the same time - sleep & swim/dance...
#WTS_ICOH#ACS_Chrono#ASA_Chrono#ASA_OHSP
@skyes90239884 WOW!! That baby is sleeping, swimming, and doing the 'sprinkler' dance move all at the same time!!!!!
PS. I have a standing bet to win $100 if I can fall asleep breathing through a snorkel with my head submerged - might just send the cash straight to the baby...

What is "circadian disruption"? My review (with beautiful artwork by @oliviawalch) is online! This single author thing is 1 of the scariest things I have done in my academic life so far. Thanks to Doro Fischer, @ajkphillips, @TillRoen, M. Parsons, & L. Hunt for their support!!
Hear me talking to @DavidCunnington about circadian rhythms and depression on the Sleep Talk podcast. Thanks for having me on the show! https://t.co/O650OUUFVM
A new study shows that shift workers with mostly night work and frequent rotations (≥50% night and ≥10% rotation) had about four times higher risk of incident hypertension compared to non-night workers @FIOH https://t.co/FHidZPYBnE
Read-access for the final form of our @EJNeuroscience review on the metabolic and cardiovascular consequences of shift work is now available at this link https://t.co/zXPo2lQUvy @Mind_the_time #Shiftwork#Sleep#Health
