Christa Pike, aged 50, is scheduled to be executed in Tennessee on September 30, 2026. She was convicted in 1996 of a 1995 murder committed when she was 18, barely out of a childhood in which she endured rape, sexual and physical violence, abuse, and neglect.
The state failed to protect her as a child despite having knowledge of what she was facing.
Her court-appointed lawyers then failed her at her trial, presenting little of the mitigating evidence of this abuse or its psychological consequences.
Call on Governor Bill Lee to stop this execution and grant clemency. Take action now: https://t.co/8J5FX1qyFL
@GovBillLee 3/ From what I have read it is as if she is a completely different person now. It seems like cruel and unusual punishment to carry out this sentence some 30 years after the crime.
@GovBillLee 2/ Because of the abuse she suffered she should have been spared the death penalty at the time of sentencing. I believe details of her abuse only became known after her sentencing.
@GovBillLee 1/As a Dolly fan from Luxembourg (Europe) I am asking you to reconsider your decision not to intervene on behalf of Christa Pike. I used to work as a lawyer in the UK in the field of criminal and family law and am aware of the devastating effect of sexual abuse on young people.
@DailySignal@VDHanson Isn’t that figure median household income and aren’t these figures from a recently published census which actually relates to 2025? I asked Claude if what you said was accurate and that is what it says 🤷♀️
@nfergus Mr Bishop in my Lincolnshire Comprehensive instilled a lifelong love of history. I still remember him reading reports of the terrible working conditions in Lancashire cotton mills in the 19th century. It was a good school and illustrated that public sector education can work.
@BowesChay Your either a useful idiot or a grifter or a bit of both. Trump, Putin, Farage, crypto bros are the globalist elite stealing from normal people.
@DailySignal@VDHanson Funny as from Europe it looks like the US is getting more medieval under Trump. People locked up without due process, a president who acts like a medieval monarch, rampant corruption, the untalented children and friends of the monarch running foreign policy …
@BowesChay@AfD Why don’t you talk about flagrant human rights abuses by Putin’s regime. Imprisoning people who simply dare to comment about how sad it is that Ukrainian civilians are being killed. How much do they pay you for your soul.
Having covered Mladic's monstrous crimes in real time, I had dared to hope Serbia would not do this. I had hoped that today's young Serbs' dreams of joining Europe, being in the democracy and human rights club, might add an element of common sense, morality and restraint. But must we now conclude this IS who Serbia wants to be? A nation aligned with, and honouring, a convicted war criminal, a mass murderer, guilty of the most heinous crime under the sun: genocide. How could the system, including the church, allow this?

All it takes is a few immigrants crossing a border, and suddenly large chunks of the population in the United States and half of Europe are ready to cheer on Putin’s genocide in Ukraine.
How on earth are these not two entirely separate things? Think whatever you like about immigration, and then support Ukraine’s survival anyway.
And for those who admire Russia as a white bastion of traditional values, a few facts are in order.
Russia is a federation of nearly 200 ethnic groups, home to somewhere around twenty million Muslims. More than in Europe and the U.S.
On the traditional side of the ledger, it has one of the highest divorce rates in the world, an abortion rate that would make a Texas Republican faint, church attendance in the single digits, and an alcohol and HIV problem the Kremlin prefers not to discuss.
Whatever Russia is selling, it is not what these people think.
