The National Transfer Scheme (NTS), introduced in 2016, aims to distribute UASC more evenly across local authorities, but the NHS lacks a coordinated approach to their mental health care. Without proper treatment, UASC show no significant mental health improvement over two years.
The number of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) in the UK increased from 2,399 in 2017 to 4,382 in 2021. Despite their high prevalence of #mentalhealth issues, #UASC receive inadequate support and underutilize mental health services.
