The ISARIC Coronovirus Clinical Characterisation Consortium is recruiting COVID-19 patients. Urgent public health research supported by @NIHRresearch @HPRUezi
Recruitment to @CCPUKstudy stops today. We hibernate now and prepare for the next exposure of Public Health Interest. Our Outbreak Data Analysis Platform is open for research with over 303k cases of #COVID19 https://t.co/qmUCn53Xhv @kennethbaillie@p_openshaw@ProfCalumSemple
Timely collation, linkage and analysis of data has been key to informing the public health and clinical response in outbreaks of MERS, COVID-19, and Childhood Acute Severe Hepatitis of Unknown Origin @CCPUKstudy@ISARIC1#DataSavesLives
I have laid out how sharing data improves direct patient care, NHS effectiveness and supports medical research https://t.co/xaQpvPmcvV
The Information Commissioner, National Data Guardian and I have explained the benefits of clinical staff sharing data to support patient care.

In general, the impact of Covid-19 on causing critical illness, i.e needing intensive care, in children lessened over the first two years of the pandemic, including when the omicron variant became dominant @CCPUKstudy@ISARIC1
@EckerleIsabella @edwardcholmes Yes, along with loss of biodiversity, changing habitats of animals, illegal wild life trade, urbanisation, trade and travel. All key drivers more frequent & complex epidemics & pandemics. The epidemic events are symptoms of our changing world & need to address the key drivers
TL;DR:
Our preprint was 1ST to report association btwn #AAV2 & hepatitis cases, found on metagenomic sequencing in 9/9 early 🏴cases vs 0/58 controls. #adenovirus found in 6/9 cases.
Cases also >likely to carry HLA DRB1*04:01 allele (8/9; 89%) vs 🏴blood donors (16%) 2/
Doctors, scientists, & public health teams are working together, learning lessons from their responses to past outbreaks pandemics. This new way of working has led to the rapid discovery of the cause of this mystery disease @ISARIC1@kennethbaillie@ProfCalumSemple
🌟Proud to share our paper 'Adeno-associated virus 2 infection in children with non-A-E hepatitis', out in @Nature today!🌟

Comment piece from David Ulaeto, Miles Carroll & me: Evolutionary implications of human transmission of monkeypox: the importance of sequencing multiple lesions https://t.co/n7nDR54mDR
We need multiple lesion samples & sequencing now to prove this @ISARIC1@CCPUKstudy
Timely release of our latest @CCPUKstudy study, led by @LanceTurtle, evaluating impact of #immunocompromise (IC) on outcome in hospitalised #COVID19.
TL;DR: Despite effective 💉& Rx, IC individuals remain at ⬆️ risk of death from COVID19 compared to immunoconpetent persons.
Great result and further evidence of the value of preparedness studies set up in readiness for future outbreaks of novel disease @gail_carson (the original CI), @ProfCalumSemple (CI & coLead) @kennethbaillie (coLead), @p_openshaw (coLead), @OutbreakJake & many more
🆕 Recent acute #hepatitis cases of unknown origin in children have now been linked to the virus AAV2, with no evidence of a direct link to #SARSCoV2 infection, in two new studies led by @UofGMVLS@GreatOrmondSt and @UCLchildhealth.

Many many congratulations to @ShonaCMoore, winning the Outstanding Contribution During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Shona and the team in our outbreak laboratories delivered the @CCPUKstudy which saved lives and enabled discovery on #COVID19
For UK hospitals that are ISARIC4C sites or are treating monkeypox patients and want to offer participation in the UK version of the CCP, see the updated UK CRF at https://t.co/QBAM1IO45i
