The world observes the International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations on 10 June, a date designated in 2024 by a United Nations General Assembly resolution proposed by China and co-sponsored by over 80 countries.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has stressed that tolerance, coexistence, exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations play an irreplaceable role in making the garden of world civilizations flourish.

Speaking on the parallel forum of the second World Conference of Classics in Athens, Hans van Ess, chair of Sinology at the University of Munich, said many people in the West view China through a lens of fear, but this reaction is wrong.
"It's much more dangerous not to understand what you commit as mistakes," he said. "That is also a very important message that classical texts can send: harmony and collaboration are important for human beings, and that fear may not be a very good advisor for our behavior."
