Clinical Psychologist working in inpatient acute care. Special interests in attachment, trauma, systemic practice, CFT and CAT. All views are my own (she/her)
The longer I work in psychiatry, the more & more I'm reminded that poverty is one of the most harmful factors (if not the most harmful factor) affecting peoples' mental health.
Make no mistake: a Brown man as PM is not progressive when they are an elitist who has consistently voted for policy negatively impacting marginalised people (notably LGBTQ+, migrants, asylum seekers, and those in low incomes) and has done nothing to progress anti-racism.
🎥 Alex explains how we co-created a culturally appropriate measurement tool for young Black men's mental health 👇
We're looking for services to pilot the new tool: https://t.co/OrmZOdQzSV @MindCharity
first tweet with an illustration i did for my instagram! feel like this is very simplified and i could add a lot more to this, but hope to update at a later date
Hi Twitter small request - please can you share this with Black and Brown trainee doctors in the Yorkshire and Humber area (and beyond) to get feedback on a safe supportive space for experiences of racism during training.

Thank you for your support!
🚩HELP: Looking for only 5 more CPs from 'BME' backgrounds to take part in my study looking at barriers to clinical training for "BME" groups, specifically in the selection process:

Just a little update to make simpler one of my drawings that had been bouncing round today. This simple shift in words changes the narrative around who is responsible for unequitable access to services...
Yesterday we were presenting as part of our respective MDTs on #leastrestrictivepractice and today we were facilitating another #attachmentandtrauma training day to our wonderful ward staff. It's been a busy but wonderful week for the single sex ward psychologists @spareclaire
Today I'm in Sheffield to speak at The Least Restrictive Practice event..
My presentation is on Engaging with Families.
How Beth's journey would have been so different if only we had been listened to and involved.

Today I'm spending some time putting a training package together for my nursing colleagues all about family work and systemic practice - beyond excited to work alongside them on our upcoming family clinics on the ward #inpatient#multidisciplinarywork
Clinical psychology should be decolonising therapy, not adapting therapies created by ‘white’ people for ‘white’ people to be ‘culturally sensitive’ and ‘culturally responsive’ (and othering people from racialised communities in the process)
Instead of focusing on the chronic underfunding these vital services should be receiving, energy and time is spent on bad faith arguments about who gets to use the services that are left, which often sideline the actual views of the services themselves.

Recent right wing media attacks clearly aim to destroy the NHS by discrediting its staff.
By blaming us for a decade of underfunding.
By turning you against us.
If, like @mark_haddon, you think the NHS is worth fighting for, please RT his wise & beautiful words 🙏
