Researcher on Internet infrastructure, state-sponsored hacking, sanctions, human rights, and authoritarianism; 'Blonde guy, talks about Iran a lot.'(ملا لغتی)
Now published through @CarnegieEndow – "Iran’s Cyber Threat: Espionage, Sabotage, and Revenge" – the decade long history of Iranian cyber operations against foreign and domestic targets. By me and @ksadjadpour. https://t.co/NQvnAl4Fpm
@ayatr0llah@websterkaroon Like having too much caffeine, nothing hallucinogenic or wild, that’s why it’s social, casual. Tastes like eating a mixture of like mint and bitter herbs, with a similar aftertaste. Very meh.
@IranWonk@ReemRifai_ Have a hard time guessing who would even be the first? There isn't an independent labor/oligarchical base like Tunisia. No military or religious fissure like Egypt. So then who goes first?
@websterkaroon@baldnial That's sort of the trend for the remainder. It's not bad, or cringe or dripping with sentimentality, like other Iranian diaspora fiction. But it's underwhelming and you'll figure out the plot half way through. (Not to spoil.)
@deanwball Also, glad you've read Seeing Like the State but "head of strategic futures" at a frontier A.I. lab is the most high modernist title possibly imaginable. Cut it out with the faux populism, James C. Scott hates you from the grave.
@deanwball Dean, GPT-5.6 is absolute trash and maybe OpenAI should fix that before thinking it can reinvent the social safety net from techno-libertarian first principles.
@freedaaron Hope so! Reading Bell and Inglehart nowadays, haunts of the class structure of the New Left and post-industrialism – a middle class rebellion then over Vietnam, now economic downward mobility.
@hmajd His original attempt at organizing defections from the security forces was a form on a Google Doc. My pet theory is that the 50,000 number comes from the IRGC trolling (or muddying the waters) through en masse false registrations.
@alexstamos@growing_daniel I wonder how much 3D printers is an instructive model. Rapacious copying of foreign competitors and a domestic open source (by differing definitions) ecosystem such that Chinese manufacturers first competed on price, and then based on product quality (Bambu).
