Dealership loyalty isn't dead. But it's being killed by inventory.
In March, 43% of new car shoppers visited only one store before buying.
By April? That number fell to 37% according to CDK Global.
Same shoppers. Same salespeople. Same incentive programs.
What changed: inventory got tighter and the car they came in for wasn't on the lot.
My take?
Inventory mix is the single biggest differentiator between stores that are winning right now and stores that are bleeding traffic.
The dealerships that stock right are going to own the next 12 months.
