3 students at Croxley Danes are campaign champions for Send My Friend to School. Read about why teachers are so integral to the education of children around the world to show your support for this cause #AllMyFriendsNeedTeachers
It has been my pleasure to tweet on behalf of the CDS English Faculty for the last two academic years. I would like to wish all CDS students success in their future studies and encourage them to keep on reading! To all @CDSEnglishTwitter supporters, a big THANK YOU! Mrs Broadis
Whilst students have had an extended weekend, CDS teachers have been back in the classroom learning about Disciplinary Literacy, Vocabulary Acquisition & Oracy. Being able to read, write, speak and listen in ALL subjects is so important! @Literacy_Trust @voice21oracy @SCDOracy
We are delighted that author Coral Rumble of the just-published poetic novel, Little Light, is delighted with the review from Lucy in Y9. Mrs Broadis was lucky enough to win a copy and the chance for students to review the book, which has now been passed on to the next reader!
Not online much while on holiday, but have to make an exception to celebrate a 13 yr old who has taken the time to write an in-depth review of Little Light. What a thorough job! Lucy P goes to Croxley Danes School. @Jb5Jane
Congratulations to nine of our creative writers in Miss Johnson's Y7 and Y10 clubs who have had their work chosen for publication in the next anthology from @YoungWritersCW Well done and we look forward to putting your work into our library for others to read and enjoy!
Reading is not just for students. One of the best ways that teachers can develop their classroom practice is through reading. That's why Mrs Cox will be running a staff Breakfast Book Group in the Autumn where CDS teachers can share their learning & ideas. #CPD#lifelonglearning
@EngChatUK Secondary teachers may well find word class and grammar terminology is less well known ... so more learning/revision is needed for analysis. #engchatuk
The ability to make confident, measured, reflective, and appropriate comments is so important when expressing an opinion within a discussion. It is good to see the four strands of Oracy explicity considered and this vital lifeskill being developed in our CDS curriculum!
Today 9C were debating whether or not tourists should be allowed to visit glacial environments in the Himalayas. They were reminded of these strands of #oracy that were shared with them in form time. Some excellent oracy skills were demonstrated!
Mrs Rovira, our librarian at Croxley Danes, does a fantastic job of keeping our displays current and reflective of national and international events. We have such a lot of good books to read! #Pride#Euros2021
Such a lot of impressive work has been handed in by our Year 8 students to demonstrate their understanding of Twelfth Night, the second of Shakespeare's plays which they have studied at Croxley Danes.
Some excellent work from Y9 has been submitted, showing understanding not only of key plot points in Romeo and Juliet, but also a thorough appreciation of journalistic style.
When COVID restrictions are lifted we are hoping to increase the membership of our book club. It is such a joy to spend an hour discussing our reading and now, sharing our writing!
In today's Read Around The World Book Group, we discussed our recent 'verse novel' reads and Bibi shared a poem inspired by our previous theme of 'books that give us hope' @CDSEnglish@HopefulEd
We are looking forward to seeing which stories are reported in the Verona News now that Y9 have completed their first read-through of Romeo & Juliet. Will it be Tybalt's death? The tragic loss of star-cross'd lovers? Or the shocking revelation that the Friar was behind it all?
Our beautiful prize has arrived for the Dragons in Fiction competition, a book by #johnhowe, illustrator of Lord of the Rings conceptual art, and #graemeaymer. Competition entries due in to the library at school, Monday 7th June.
Across the school we develop the skills that students need to tackle their studies with confidence. A broad vocabulary is essential - with one, we can articulate complex ideas & demonstrate a more detailed understanding of the challenges that face us & issues that interest us.
At Geography GCSE we recognise how important both literacy and numeracy are for success in the subject. This exercise book page demonstrates some of the activities we do to focus on these skills @CDSEnglish@CDSMaths
