What will real progress look like over the next decade as we work towards accountable and rights-centred supply chains in East Africa and beyond?
Speaking during the East and Horn of Africa Business and Human Rights Dialogue, @dsolawuyi, Chairperson of the Working Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises, outlined six critical priorities that must shape the future of Business and Human Rights across the region:
🔹 Rule Clarity – Strengthening and regularly reviewing National Action Plans (NAPs) on Business and Human Rights to ensure they remain relevant, inclusive, and aligned with emerging issues such as artificial intelligence and evolving global standards.
🔹 Policy Coherence – Moving beyond policy adoption to implementation by ensuring adequate funding, institutional support, and nationwide awareness of Business and Human Rights frameworks.
🔹 Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships – Building stronger collaboration among governments, businesses, civil society, trade unions, academia, and communities to drive collective ownership and action.
🔹 Responsible Business Conduct Beyond Compliance – Encouraging businesses to move from a compliance mindset to a responsibility mindset by embedding human rights due diligence throughout their supply chains and business relationships.
🔹 Information Sharing and Digital Innovation – Leveraging technology and digital platforms to track, monitor, report, and address human rights risks and abuses across supply chains.
🔹 Capacity Development – Investing in continuous learning, dialogue, and awareness-building to empower businesses, governments, workers, indigenous communities, and civil society actors to understand and uphold human rights standards.

"Business and human rights is no longer just about compliance, it is about action," urges Karen Poore, Country Director, @DCA_Kenya
"As standards evolve, the focus must shift from policies on paper to practices that create better, fairer, and more sustainable jobs. Responsible business conduct, transparency, and long-term thinking are not only good for people, they are essential for resilient and competitive businesses.
Achieving this requires genuine collaboration. Governments, businesses, civil society, producers, women, youth, and marginalized groups all have a role to play in building inclusive, climate-smart economies where dignity, rights, and opportunity go hand in hand.
The challenge is regional, and so must be the solutions. By learning from one another, sharing openly, and working across borders, we can turn the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights into meaningful change on the ground"

CEPCJ is pleased to announce that we have developed Toolkits for Responsible Agricultural Supply Chains. The toolkits are a practical avenue for agribusinesses to carry out self-evaluations to assess their level of maturity in adopting Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) principles
Last week, the toolkits were presented to private sector actors drawn from Nakuru,Nyandarua,Machakos&Nairobi counties who have undertaken our RBC trainings in the past year. It was a forum for insightful feedback to ensure they are aligned with end-user needs #bizhumanrights
