In the SEC, collective bargaining has gone from long-shot discussions to full-blown presentations.
More preliminary talks are expected here in Destin. While momentum grows, the concept is fraught with problems.
But, says one AD, “Maybe it is the answer.”

Today, the CFBPA announced our updated Platform for Change. Our platform is now nearly 5 years old and this modernization reflects where the game is at today and what athletes should want to achieve when in future collective bargaining. Check it out here: https://t.co/Cc3CwN7bnv
Very good video. The reason why the NFL takes this seriously now is because there is an organized players association who’s members care, to hold the entities & coaches accountable. The @CFBPAOfficial will be important not just for the $ it’s for health and safety standards.
Excellent newsletter by @JasonStahl__ on the state of college sports as 2026 nears.
Can't have a CBA without a union, and can't have a union without employment recognition (among other steps along the way). The basics of labor law can't be circumvented. https://t.co/LqqSkrgdlY.
Excellent column on how the calendar which coaches wanted hurts players -- especially high school recruits. The only way to fix this is for players to get together collectively and bargain a new calendar which is in everyone's interests.
Control-freak football coaches lobbied for the "calendar" that they now complain about.
The biggest impact isn't on them, however, but the recruits and their families who are forced to scramble here on signing day.
"This whole process is not a process; it's chaotic. And it has hurt the high school athlete the most."

NCAA loses major brain injury lawsuit, ordered to pay $18M to former SC State football player who was diagnosed with dementia at 59.
1933 NCAA medical handbook warned of "punch drunk" in football players from repeated concussions. They never warned us.

“I think having a federal law, plus an EO, plus Trump’s signature on the federal law, these things would sort of change the game, and I think ultimately set us back,” @JasonStahl__ tells @G_Svirnovskiy. https://t.co/aAIieLYpSn
Looks like @EASPORTSCollege is revising their CFB video game when they know players won't be paying attention at the beginning of the season. From this you can see why. They're attempting to lock players into a low flat fee without royalties despite the game raking in billions.
Congress is poised to grant the #NCAA its biggest wish: immunity from antitrust laws, disguised as athlete protections. The SCORE Act is an immediate no. Here’s why:
