One thing every Football WC makes you realize how incredibly non-diverse cricket twitter is, even for ICC tournaments. Ultimately it’s just sub-continent accounts mainly IND & PAK fans tweeting everything and being present under every post.
@plasticpitch@UzbekFooty Aren't they mispassing a little too much to even attack in counter? Eldor needs to drop back a bit more. Fayzullaev and Orunov barely even touch the ball. Kinda expected better from UZB
It is not my team, it is our country. If you feel you need an incentive to support your national team, then I honestly don't know what to say.
Going by that logic, countries like Bangladesh should have no support either. Yet their fans proudly back the national team despite being ranked 181 because they love both their country and football. The same can be said for Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Tajikistan and many others across Asia.
Do you think every lower-league club in Europe plays great football? Of course not. Their fans still turn up because they love the game and feel a connection to their city and club.
Support is not always about success. Sometimes it is simply about belonging.
This is exactly why I tweeted:
If anyone wants to ask why India is not playing at the FIFA World Cup, or when India will play at the FIFA World Cup, ask Indian football fans and experts, not football fans and experts from India.
I am tired of hearing the same reasons and gyaan every four years when the World Cup comes around.
Talk about why India is not playing the World Cup when the next qualification cycle effectively starts in October 2027. Force AIFF to get the basic things right now, not wait until 2030 and then start asking the same questions all over again.
Football fans from India ≠ Indian football fans.
The BIG difference between cricket and football is that the European Union consists of different countries, whereas the Indian Union consists of different states. That is why football appears to be a global sport.
Otherwise, it is largely a two-continent sport, and because it is easy to understand, it has built a diverse fanbase around the world.
Cricket could easily have a 48-team World Cup if the Indian Union were made up of different countries like the European Union. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, and several other states could become proper Test nations within a few years.
If the West Indies were split, they could field 6 international teams that would be highly competitive in T20 World Cups.
And if Wales were separated from the ECB, cricket would gain another European World Cup team.
So, Cricket if not to football levels still is far more global than many people think.
I'll make it easier for cricket fans to understand why football is a true global sport
Number of nations represented by players in IPL: 15
Number of nations represented by players in Premier league: 128
(There's also other European leagues where you will see more nations)
@Hussainov1ch@bff_football@HamzaChoudhury1@04topu Bangladesh really brought their A-game tonight. It's not just about Hamza. The other players were so good - I've never seen a stronger Bangladesh in last 7 years.
@SandynoneM I'm genuinely curious about Bangladesh. It's not about Hamza. The other players seem to have stepped up - not the usual Bangladeshi style of play I've seen. I haven't seen a SAFF team go this toe to toe against us in the recent seven years.
Might be Manolo's worst game so far.
