@HowEPhil Was the $2.5B More Marta tax in 2016 supported by voters/taxpayers also suppose to stall out. If you ask me….yes, the powers that be knew “the plan” would have voters supporting a new tax selling transit/rail only to create a new a new slush fund.
@atlurbanist Sadly ATL DOT used thermoplastic instead of MMA which is why ATL bike lanes deteriorate quickly vs. other cities. This is done to save $$ without care that the coating fails in a couple of years. https://t.co/BjWIq7OLMO
@HowEPhil One of my major complaints is ATL DOT is using thermoplastic for the bike lane green while it is known to fail (often quickly). Most cities use MMA which lasts 10x longer. Why you may ask? Because it is cheaper despite the fact everyone knows it will fail
@R_A_Belcher A blight tax would bankrupt every owner of property who cannot afford to maintain their property (primarily lower income). Not sure ATL wants that or to put a net worth test on the ordinance which is likely unconstitutional.
@atlbell929 As I tell people all the time…look at their board.
Not a lot of background in finance, public transportation or planning. Lots of legal and healthcare. No one should be surprised that Marta has moved backwards over the past 20 years as ATL grew
@AtlBizChron One thing politicians never seem to understand is that raising taxes on landlords/corporations only raises costs for residents.
Politically it sounds great to say we are charging corporations more but in reality the added costs get passed through to the resident/taxpayer.
@atlurbanist@YourCousinJeff I know expanding the system is a dream for the next generation but they just need to make it safe for now. Multiple murders is not good. Was on Metro in DC and NYC subway and due to heavy ridership, it feels a lot safer IMO
@ATLDOT There is plywood covering a hole in the sidewalk at Howell Mill and 14th. An intersection of some of the city’s top restaurants. Is thi how we will present to our World Cup visitors?
@HowEPhil@atlurbanist As I say often…Atlanta can’t have nice things. The minute you recognize that phras, all of this makes more sense and is less infuriating. 😎
@ajc Come on AJC You should support the city that bears your name better than that. Despite how much you want to support her campaign, pls do not bury the chaos from her years as mayor. It is an important view into her policy (or lack there of)
@steakshapiro Darrin Hancock from Griffin was one of those who honestly looked like an NBA player in a high school game. He was different level and could score at will
@R_A_Belcher Our school played Woodward where her son played last season. She stopped the game and claimed the score was wrong (Woodward parent keeping score) she then said she did not have a score book but she was right. The officials asked her to leave. I felt bad for her kid.
@wsbtv Isn’t the real story that the City of Atlanta knows where the system may fail but has not done the work putting residents and businesses at risk. It is great they are making repairs but one would hope it would be for the taxpayers and residents and not World Cup visitors.
