What's your organisation actually governing?
1. The operational reality, or
2. The reported narrative?
The difference is the emerging visibility gap in #governance today.

Codes of governance are meaningless if they're not put into proper action.
In all cases, to give a governance code meaning, all claims made to complying with a code must be robustly tested!

Lip service to good #governance, opaque reporting and sub-standard leadership in state organisations continue as SOC/Es escalate downhill.
Here's the kicker - the Governance Codes won't change the dire conditions in SA until accountability is applied!

The interpretative spin by Col. Jabobs and patronizing tone will come back to bite hard.
Proper procedures of handling the drugs weren't followed, and now those people found wanting are attempting to cover their tracks.
#MadlangaCommision shows governance failed at many levels.
In case you missed it
RECAP 3
This is Colonel Jacob, he's Sanders boss who abondoned his leave for a day after he recieved a call from Colonel Duma that there's a Powder burst tip off.
In hearing this news he immediately called Goodenough who was a W/O at that time and ask him to come and pick him up in Phoenix. He started to assemble his team, indeed on their arrival they did find the Powder but he never called FSL department to bring necessary resources to help but create his own mini FSL where Goodenough was responsible for picture taking, sampling among others.
He also decided to take the Powder to Port Shepstone without finding if the nearby Stations have space for it. Nonas and him arrived at the same time then the Powder was store in a safe outside exhibits bags. Mpangs then locked and gave the key to Nonas
He is the first person ever to lose his cool on the Commissioners and call them YOU GUYS annoyed
The drugs later went missing under him and Nonas care. Since both were the custodian of the keys

SA swinging between state capture & drug capture.
SA' s #governance hangs off a delicate thread - Pres. Ramaphosa seems to think we are showing progress. Not seeing the wood for the trees.
The more things seem to change, the more it stays the same.

When good #governance goes astray at the top, stakeholders bear the brunt.
This once world class city is in rapid decay - many businesses and economically active citizens have either immigrated, or 'semi-grated' to more functional, safer provinces in SA.
No quick fixing!
Joburg’s financial position has deteriorated to the point where the Auditor-General has questioned the city’s ability to continue as a going concern, citing liquidity shortages, weak controls, and billions in losses.

@GamingGrifter Akin to many organisations and their leadership, they make claims that they're well governed and that good #governance prevails within their organisations - they even write about it in their annual reports.
However, trying to find the evidence is something else.
WHAT PROGRESS?
This fiend loves speaking about things he's done yet no evidence exists to actually back up his claims.
The economy is STILL not growing
ANC municipalities are STILL failing
Services are STILL not delivered
Crime is STILL rampant.
Where's this progress Cyril?
This type of behavior amongst many executives in SA state organisations, isn't unusual.
Some really believe they're above the law and untouchable. When the governance spotlight is switched on, their tune starts to change.
Governance transparency opens pathway to accountability!
The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) has resolved to request the Secretary to Parliament to lay criminal charges against Collins Letsoalo, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Road Accident Fund (RAF), for failing to appear before the committee despite a formal summons.
The decision, taken on Wednesday, follows Letsoalo’s non-appearance in response to a summons issued in November 2025 during SCOPA’s ongoing inquiry into the affairs of the RAF.
In countries like Malaysia, China, Singapore, and others with zero-tolerance narcotics regimes, a senior officer's admitted procedural breach pertaining drugs -- esp.cocaine -- would likely trigger far harsher consequences than in South Africa.
Accountability starts at the top.
Colonel Jacob conceded that when the exhibits were transported from Isipingo to Port Shepstone, he knew they were not in evidence bags. When asked what is more important—saving time or complying with prescripts requiring exhibits to be sealed—he answered: "Saving time." He also clarified that the DPP's office had sight of the entire inquiry, including the investigation diary and statements, and never cited contamination or integrity issues. #MadlangaCommission

@MadlangaInquiry It's an open admission of sidestepping organisational policy and procedures -- violating good #governance principles -- which must not be tolerated.
It's bizarre to know there are leaders who genuinely believe the rules only apply to others and not themselves.

@joburglawyer Fraud is covered with many hats.
One must also question the process followed by the organisation that appointed this person, including their robustness of vetting qualifications.
The more things seem to change, the more they stay the same!

It’s ridiculous that Anushka Bogdanov, having fraudulently represented that she has a PHD from London Business School, would assume the role of Ethics chair of a listed company. She should be banned from assuming any fiduciary position at any company.

[COMMENT]
The testimony emerging at the Madlanga Commission this week regarding the theft of cocaine from a police facility in Port Shepstone KZN is deeply concerning.
If those responsible have been identified, law enforcement authorities must act swiftly and decisively.
Allegations involving the theft of drugs from police custody strike at the heart of public trust in the criminal justice system and cannot be allowed to linger without accountability.
Should any police officers be implicated, they must be treated no differently from any other suspect.
The law must apply equally to everyone, regardless of rank or position.
If sufficient evidence exists, arrests should follow, and those charged should face the full consequences of the legal process.
The commission’s testimony has raised serious questions that deserve clear answers.
The public will be looking to investigators and prosecutors to demonstrate that no one is above the law and that accountability is pursued wherever the evidence leads.

Weak governance at the top creates destruction at the bottom.
A robust, digitised #governanceframework implemented in an organisation brings transparency and order to the systems of directing & controlling.
Ignoring this fact has become an inconvenient truth for many!
This is a great article. It highlights how weak leadership reduces oversight. And weak oversight cascades into the erosion of controls. Once procurement controls are weak, corruption and fraud opportunities open up - an issue the ANC struggles with. https://t.co/HCMy3siv5N
Having listened to WO Sander's testimony at @MadlangaInquiry, the depth of answering questions posed to him go well beyond the usual actions of a #whistleblower.
A whistleblower offers information quietly, behind wraps and supposedly protected.
Who now protects WO Sander?
The extent of SA's deep rooted corruption -- spread broadly in some of the highest offices in the land -- has undoubtedly destroyed many careers - many have also lost their lives.
We salute those who stood bravely, and those still standing for their moral values.
Deep respect!

Warrant Officer Karl Sander broke down before the #MadlangaCommission after Advocate Segales-Ncube presented evidence showing he had been cleared of involvement in the Port Shepstone drug theft case.

An organisation's reputation -- and its credibility -- takes many years to be built, said Warren Buffet some years ago. He went on to say that it takes just 5 minutes to destroy it.

For Geordin Hill-Lewis and other DA leaders to publicly celebrate Liam Jacobs' return sends exactly the wrong message.
Everyone makes mistakes. But serious institutions enforce standards. They do not reward people who spend years attacking a party, only to be welcomed back like returning heroes.
My issue is not party politics. It is accountability, decency, and respect for public office.
I have been sitting on the sidelines, but this genuinely pisses me off more than anything else.
My advice: do not vote for the DA in this election.
If you are a DA supporter, councillor, or public representative, ask the leadership why this was necessary. What values are being rewarded here?
Liam Jacobs has repeatedly shown that political advancement matters more to him than principle. A party that promotes that culture will eventually become defined by it.
Other parties do similar things. That is precisely why someone needs to draw a line.
“We don't have to all agree, we don't have to be friends we don't have to like each other but we all have a responsibility to serve the interest of South Africas so this country doesn't need heroes but it needs principled people” General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi
“if South Africa is serious about the national reset then the reset must include all of us. it must start with politicians, they drive fancy cars these days they live like business people” General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi
