Common Ground is a non-profit dedicated to the ideas of Henry George.
Here, we work on advocating for the Land Value Tax in Minnesota for a better future #LVT
Our bill HF1342 is a step forward in decentralized decision making for the tax policies which make sense for municipalities. With a donation, we will work with our partners in passing a bill which allows cities to decide if the #LVT makes sense for them. https://t.co/yWRd84knHj
It's not to late to RSVP for the zoom meeting hosted by our friends at @SierraClubMN, @SustainStPaul, and @MoreNeighbors to learn about the ways the #LVT impacts green cities and creates equity for communities:

As the MN legislative session approaches, we are working to get enough funding together to make the #LVT happen in MN! To do this we need your help, please consider sharing and donating if you can.
We were so close last year and can't give up our momentum!

Public transportation funded by the #LVT can provide affordable, efficient, and sustainable transportation options, reducing the need for car ownership and reducing traffic congestion, which can improve air quality and reduce noise pollution
"Most across the political spectrum - whether you're a Republican, Democrat, Progressive or Independent - agree with the need for more affordable housing." - Phil Scott (@GovPhilScott )
How can Minnesota reduce housing costs for low- and moderate-income households, improve access to safe and stable housing, and reduce housing insecurity?

A positive feedback cycle of the #LVT is generating revenue for public transportation, affordable housing, and green space. With these, communities can become more attractive places to live and work, increasing property values and generating more revenue for public goods.
We can make homes and businesses more profitable to build than parking lots. The choice is always up to the developer, but the #LVT means it makes more sense to bring value to the area.
The Land Value Tax and public transit go hand in hand and both create a more sustainable future. By investing in public transport the #LVT begins generating revenue for transportation infrastructure, the community sees more income and more investments.
We’re prioritizing sustainable urban planning and for a better future by promoting the #LVT in MN to:
+ Encourage developers to build more walkable and compact communities.
+ Reduce car dependency, promote healthier lifestyles, and create more vibrant neighborhoods.
Our work in advancing the #LVT is also work for economic stability, the real estate market has and will distort and cripple our economy, erasing earned wealth and opportunities for everyone except the speculators themselves.
Capital and labor are essential to advancing society but they must be tempered with economic justice to ensure that the benefits of growth are shared by all.
We see the importance of a more just tax system, and know that the #LVT is a powerful tool for achieving this goal
"Capital is as essential to labor as labor is to capital. In fact, capital and labor are two names for the same thing, viewed from different standpoints. Capital is labor saved, and labor is capital in action." - Henry George
Please consider joining our friends over at @CommonWealth_ca May 4th at 2pm est for a live call discussing what they’re up to and where they’re going!

Whatever happened to the state bill enabling local land value taxes? This would be a great tool to stop the speculative behavior described here

@risahustad@zyudhishthu but there has been a lot of interest by members including @RepAishaGomez and @ElkinsForHouse. The momentum is there and we're working hard to keep that traction
@risahustad@zyudhishthu Sure! You're right we did get a hearing by the property tax division to be included on their annual bill, however some members disagreed on the broad language and decided they would need it reworked for inclusion. As of now we unfortunately won't be making it this year (1/2)
On International Workers' Day we remember the importance of labor and economic justice for all thanks to the power of the workers. We celebrate #MayDay by working towards a more just and equitable society for everyone. #LVT
