Like many others, I have been alarmed by the success of certain politicians in our country who identify as extreme socialists or communists.

This is not a matter of classical liberals triumphing over standard-issue conservatives; this is the victory of people who stand athwart the fundamental principles that undergird our country.

There are many reasons why I detest Communism, but I want to draw attention to just one issue of supreme importance.

Karl Marx said that the first critique is the critique of religion. He meant that, before a complete re-working of the politics and economics of a society can take place, religion has to be taken down.

This is because religion, as he saw it, is the “opium of the masses,” a drug taken to dull our sensitivity to the suffering caused by economic exploitation. As long as the suffering populace is lured into complacency by fantasies about God's providence and the promise of eternal life, they will never rise up and throw off their chains.

But there is a second reason why the elimination of religion is of paramount significance for Marx.

Communism aspires to be a totalizing system, involving the government's control over education, entertainment, communication, politics, and especially economics.

What stands resolutely athwart this ambition is religion, which declares that all of these societal expressions are finally under the judgment of God. So, if you want Communism to succeed, religion has to be stamped out.

If you doubt me on any of this, I would encourage you to read the recent histories of China, Russia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Venezuela. Revisit those histories and tell me I'm wrong about the attack on religion.

Might I encourage my fellow believers in God not to be complacent in the face of this very troubling development in the American body politic?

In 1910, The Rockefeller Foundation, along with the Carnegie Foundation funded the Flexner Report.

The goal was to shift all medical schools & all teaching hospitals away from natural traditional root cause medicine & shift towards petroleum based medications & allopathic medicine for profit.

During this time, therapies such as homeopathy, herbal medicine, essential oils, chiropractic & naturopathy were commonplace.

The 1910 Flexner report concluded that these natural healing modalities were “unscientific quackery.”

This report also concluded that there were too many medical schools as well as too many doctors in America & called for the standardization of medical education.

Of course, this was with underlying intentions being that the American Medical Association would be the only entity that could approve medical school licensure in America.

Rockefeller worked with Andrew Carnegie to provide funding for medical schools across the country. This was with the condition, of course, that they only taught allopathic medicine & they were offered grants of significant proportions in order to adhere to these conditions.

Through these grants, primarily fueled by Rockefeller’s petroleum monopoly, helped to systematically remove any mention of plant-based natural treatments along with teachings on nutrition & diet from medical education curricula.

Supported by Rockefeller’s influence on the media of the time, homeopathic & natural medicines were quickly discredited & demonized through targeted media campaigns.

Yesterday’s Supreme Court decision reflects that the capture of government by big industry is nearly complete. It affirmed the right of chemical companies to injure, maim, and even kill you and your children with their pesticides, herbicides, etc., with near complete impunity.

This means you can expect increasingly toxic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, rodenticides, etc., because the more toxic they are, the better they will kill weeds, pests, etc. And farmers that then use the most effective products, no matter how harmful to humans, will have a competitive advantage. The result will be that the farmer who adopts the most effective products (meaning most toxic) will have the largest crop yield. Other farmers, to compete, will then also be forced to adopt the more harmful product. With that, the race to the bottom has begun.

I expect that in the coming decades we will look back and wish to return to the “safer days” of glyphosate. So, bottom line: your government has abandoned you and your children. Think about this decision: 7 out of 9 Supreme Court judges sided with the chemical company against the public, and Trump’s DOJ intervened in the case on the side of the chemical company. Anyone who thinks this administration cares about you over industry profit is, at this point, delusional.

Shame on the DOJ, shame on the Trump admin, and shame on the Supreme Court for letting chemical companies get away with injuring, maiming, and killing Americans with their products instead of just allowing normal market forces to protect us and our children. Now, in addition to vaccines, we can add pesticides, etc., to the list of products that can injure and kill with near complete immunity.

Below is the decision and, in a nutshell, it holds that failure to warn claims brought under state law (which is the primary type of claim one would bring for harms from a pesticide, herbicide, etc.) are preempted by the EPA-approved label such that, if the harm is not on the label, your claim loses (since EPA didn’t add it to the label as a harm), and if the harm is on the label, your claim loses (since it has been disclosed on the label). Meaning heads or tail they win, and you and your children lose.

In what will certainly become one of the most fundamental speeches of his pontificate, Pope Leo XIV told the Spanish Parliament, before receiving a 7-minute standing ovation: "The defense of human life is neither a partisan issue nor a confessional interest: it is a goal of civilization."

"If life ceases to be recognized as a fundamental value, what future can our societies have?" he said, speaking to a gathering of politicians, many supporting abortion and euthanasia.

"Can a community that casts into the shadows the unborn child, the elderly, the sick, those who suffer in silence, or those who depend entirely on the care of others be called fully just?"

"Every human life must be recognized and safeguarded from conception to its natural end, in every circumstance of its existence. When this certainty is obscured, the most vulnerable are the first victims, and the law loses its deepest meaning: to serve and protect every person."

"For this reason, the moral greatness of a nation is manifested, above all, in its capacity to accompany, protect and love those lives that are most fragile," he said, repeating what John Paul II emphasized decades ago.

Starting his speech he commented that Church's is the "message offered in the spirit of service to the human person."

"When the Church addresses anything concerning public life, she does so while respecting the proper mission of institutions and the legitimate responsibility of those who have received the mandate to legislate," Pope Leo said, emphasizing "the Church offers a reflection born of the desire to serve the common good."

He hailed Spain as country that "has known how to view the human being as more than just a cog in the social, economic or political order. It has recognized the human being as a creature open to truth, endowed with freedom, and driven by a thirst for eternity that no temporal reality can quench -- in a word, as someone whose dignity takes precedence over all utility and to whose service legislative action is subject."

He said it was Catholic orders that "helped to shape a legal and moral consciousness capable of remembering that authority always entails responsibility and that every human being must be recognized as a subject of rights and duties."

"That aspiration continues to resonate today: that dignity, justice and the common good should be the measure of social relations, both at the national and international levels."

Referring multiple times to his "Magnifica Humanitas" encyclical, he said: "When the common good ceases to be a shared horizon, public action runs the risk of fragmenting into partial interests, incapable of safeguarding what belongs to all."

"In this context, the family — the primary human reality and the natural foundation of the community — takes on particular importance," Pope Leo said.

"The family will always be the first school of humanity, where one learns, before anywhere else, the basic grammar of living together: welcoming life, caring for others, forgiving, serving and belonging."

"Human life can never be treated as a commodity," the pope said.

"A law does not attain its true greatness merely by having been formally enacted; it attains it when, in addition to being valid in form, it can stand before the dignity of the person and pass that test without shame."
