@mattclark57 Assessments need to have ways for students to show us what they know and how they are able to problem-solve and reason through complicated situations. This can be accomplished through performance assessments and more open-ended questions on assessments.

@mattclark57 I couldn’t agree more. The focus of instruction needs to be for transfer from grade to grade and not a test in April or May. Students need to be the do-ers & the show-ers in the classroom. A room should be filled with their voices, their thought processes, and their reasoning.

@mattclark57 A secondary teacher can observe classroom management and the differentiation of content to every student in the room. An elementary teacher can observe the depth of knowledge students need to apply skills and content in a secondary classroom.

@mattclark57 The motivation of grades is declining in our students. We need to develop relationships with our students so they know we care as much about them as their learning then use what we know about our students to develop lessons and activities that are interesting & meaningful.
