St John the #Evangelist, #Langrish, #Hampshire. Stained glass. The middle one is the east window (1870) by Heaton, Butler & Bayne, the others are attributed to the same company. The first one depicts the Sermon on the Mount.

My #countryhousepic today shows Lough Bawn House near Collinstown (Co. Westmeath), a house probably of c.1830, built for George Battersby (1802-80) which is still in the family, being run by his great-great-granddaughter as a rather grand B&B.

The church that time forgot.

Over a stone stile, St Andrew's, Bayvil nestles in crunchy bracken. Overlooking Newport Bay, the church survives almost entirely as the Georgians left it.

But St Andrew's is a bit of an enigma. Nobody knows when it was built or by whom.

Increasingly close photos of St Hubert, #Idsworth, #Hampshire. The oldest part of the church was built by Earl Godwine who died in 1053. It is known as ‘The little church in the fields’. The village was deserted at the end of the C14, quite possibly as a result of the #plague
