𝐑𝐄𝐅𝐋𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍: 𝐑𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲

Ramadan is described in many beautiful ways, but one aspect that is often overlooked is its 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.

In Islamic teachings, hospitality is deeply connected to faith. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
"Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should be generous to his guest. His special gift (to the guest) is one day and night. Hospitality extends for three days, and whatever is beyond that is charity." — Sahih al-Bukhari (6018), Sahih Muslim (47)

This profound teaching shaped Islamic culture so much that many Muslim homes had a dedicated guest room, always ready to welcome a traveller or a stranger in need.

There is something truly magical about hospitality. 𝗜𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀, 𝘂𝗻𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗿 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺, 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀. When we share a meal, we share more than just food—we share moments, stories, and a sense of belonging. In an age where digital interactions often replace real human connection, the simple act of welcoming someone into our home reminds us of the power of human touch. A shared meal lingers in memory far longer than a fleeting online experience.

Hospitality is a 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁. Those who offer it find their hearts expand with warmth and kindness, while those who receive it are filled with gratitude and appreciation. It is a beautiful exchange of love and sincerity, a reminder of our shared humanity.

Hospitality is also 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, especially in moments when the intentions of both the host and the guest may be uncertain. True hospitality transcends mere formality—it is an expression of trust, kindness, and a willingness to connect.

I leave you with a short but profound verse from the poetry of the Turkish Muslim mystic Yunus Emre:

"I did not come for a fight,
My only aim is love and light.
The heart is the home of a friend,
I came to heal and mend the heart."

May this Ramadan be filled with warmth, generosity, and the joy of shared iftar meals, where the spirit of Muslim hospitality shines and extends to the broader society we are part of.
