The images, the cries, the humiliation and the police brutality against young people peacefully demanding accountability will not simply disappear with the passage of time. Those responsible MUST be held accountable.

And our struggle is not over. Two crucial commitments remain unfulfilled:

1. Quashing of all FIRs and an unequivocal written guarantee against any future targeting or harassment of protesters.

2. Honourable compensation for the families of the students who lost their lives.

These were not favours but commitments made to the young generation, on the strength of which we withdrew our agitation in good faith. A promise made to a generation cannot become a vishwasghaat against that generation. To ensure that the Union Government honours its public commitments, the young will gather again at India Gate on September 5.

A Jewish Democratic nominee for Congress stood with an interfaith crowd and said what India’s ruling ideology refuses to hear: Mohan Bhagwat’s organisation has fomented violence and hatred against Muslims, Sikhs, Dalits and Christians; and Madison Square Garden should not platform it.

This is not some fringe protest. This is New York telling the RSS that its exclusionary project has no place in a city that actually practices pluralism.

When the diaspora and local leaders start calling your ideology a threat to public safety, the international shame is no longer deniable.

कल बिहार सरकार ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट में हलफनामा दिया कि सीवान में एके 47 गोलीकांड की वजह कांस्टेबल का प्रदर्शनकारियों की भीड़ में फंस जाना था. उसने आत्मरक्षार्थ एके 47 से चार गोलियां हवा में चलाई थी. हालांकि उस पर कार्रवाई करते हुए उसे सस्पेंड कर दिया गया है. मगर अदालत में दिया गया यह हलफनामा क्या सचमुच सही है?

इस पोस्ट के साथ लगे वीडियो को देखिये, यह कथित तौर पर उसी घटना का वीडियो है, जो हर जगह सर्कुलेट हुआ है और अभी तक सरकार ने इस वीडियो को गलत नहीं बताया है. इस वीडियो से साफ है कि कांस्टेबल ने चार नहीं आठ गोलियां चलाई थी. इस बात को बीबीसी हिंदी ने भी रिपोर्ट किया था, जिसका सरकार ने अब तक खंडन नहीं किया.

दूसरी बात हवाई फायरिंग बिल्कुल नहीं है. यह सीधे छात्रों को टारगेट करके चलाई गई गोली है. वीडियो में साफ नजर आ रहा है. और आत्मरक्षा का कितना मामला है, यह भी देखिये. फिर सरकार सुप्रीम कोर्ट में झूठ क्यों बोल रही है?

सच यही है कि इस पूरे मामले में पुलिस मैनुअल का घोर उल्लंघन हुआ है और प्रदर्शनकारी भीड़ से निपटने का तरीका भी गलत है. हालांकि सरकार ने इस बात को स्वीकार किया और डीजीपी ने नये हिदायत जारी किये हैं. सीवान के एसपी पूरन कुमार झा को एक तरह से कल लाइन हाजिर भी किया गया है. मगर वह सुप्रीम कोर्ट में क्यों झूठ बोल रही है.

एक तथ्य जो सुप्रीम कोर्ट में पेश किया गया कि एके 47 से चली गोली से कोई घायल नहीं हुआ. मगर एक घायल बुलेट कुमार गौंड के परिजन कहते हैं कि बुलेट को एके 47 की गोली लगी है. उसके जांघ को चीरती हुई गोली निकली और उसकी जांघ की हड्डी फ्रैक्चर हो गई. बुलेट के भाई ने यह बात मुझे ऑन कैमरा कही है. उसका बाइट कमेंट बॉक्स में डाल रहा हूं.

इसके अलावा सीवान के कई लोगों से बातकर जो स्टोरी मैंने न्यूजलौंड्री के लिए की थी, उसका इशारा यह है कि चूंकि प्रदर्शनकारी का एक पत्थर सीवान एसपी को लग गया था, इसी गुस्से में कांस्टेबल ने इस तरह गुस्से में आकर एके 47 की गोलियां छात्रों पर बरसाई. ज इसी मुद्दे पर राजद राजभवन मार्च निकाल रहा है, वह जांच की मांग कर रहा है. देखिये, आगे सरकार क्या फैसला करती है.
