With France's gov't collapsing (again) due to an impossible fiscal position, and the French publics allergic reaction to anything resembling spending cuts, I've been thinking that watching how they deal w/ it will be a good test case for when our bell tolls.

@eigenrobot Domestic citizens must vote in person w/ ID on election day. Mail in allowed for overseas citizens. No mail in counted if received after E day. Results must be announced by midnight of western most time zone applicable. Counting process open to public and livestreamed.

@MartinSkold2 Amazing commentators haven't learned this lesson after we all watched the proceedings in HK. The US mental frame is too strong I guess. How far beyond Taiwan can this strat take them though? Do they even want to go farther? Building TSMC plants in AZ is clearly a hedge here.

@ChristianHeiens While I agree directionally, I'm not nearly so fatalistic. We're in the middle of a great unwinding. Every year that passes the left and its institutions are less powerful. The right is just now hashing out what the new language of politics is. This is the work of generations.

@ConservaMuse During a great unwinding, like now, all becomes debatable. And honestly I think necessarily so. I'm of the mind that our political process is strong enough to allow debate of even that process itself. The conclusion made stronger and more durable by that allowance. YMMV

@QuetzalPhoenix It's funny how each era's visions of the future end up draped in the trappings of the era. I can't imagine a more quintessentially 90's vision of the future than this. Wonderful movie.
