I'm fed up of parties campaigning on social and foreign issues in local politics.

Local government has no control over these issues and this form of politics only seeks to divide us needlessly.

Greater Manchester needs a mayoral candidate who will focus on what the role actually entails.

That option doesn't exist.

So I am very happy to announce that I intend to stand for election to Greater Manchester Mayor in 2028.

Only a matter of weeks until the book is released. Four weeks later I go on tour with the book across the country, delivering a talk on the erosion of civil liberties and being joined by a number of different speakers including @JeffTaylorUK @NickBuckleyMBE @harmansinghkapoor @CLActionUK and a host of others from the world of politics... indeed, we will also have a spicy combination of speakers rarely seen under the same roof...

More speakers still to be booked. We are having to ticket these events - just £5 - to cover the cost of the hall and some of the promotion.

"The Free Speech Caveat" will be available September 7th - £10 (those wanting an e-book, that will be cheaper as I don't have the printing costs, etc to cover).

Since Liz Truss managed to sell about 6,500 copies of her book according to Google AI, that is my first sales target - and you wouldn't want me to sell fewer copies than Liz Truss, would you? ;) (Sorry Liz, we love you really!)

I will be looking for a few extra pairs of hands for the events to welcome people and assist with the streaming/live-editing. If you're interested please give me a shout.

There is no one left to defend free speech in Britain.

The t-shirt meme is distasteful, but it does not warrant police action.

I understand why people feel emotional about the subject, especially after recent events. I understand that there are double standards which exist, and that if a Reform politician had posted that meme, they would be arrested.

That does not make it right. ‘Free speech for me and not for thee’ is short-sighted and results in a less free country. We must be more principled than that.

It really angers me when people claim they believe in “free speech,” but when it comes to defending political adversaries, completely abandon the principle.

Whether it’s Lucy Connolly’s tweet, pro-pro-Palestine chants or this Green Party meme, the state should not police words.
