Dissertation: Are home counties girlteens using features of MLE?
'Giving up the GOAT: A sociophonetic investigation into Multicultural London English in female teenagers in a girls' grammar school in Aylesbury.'
Have finally got round to uploading my (revised and supervisor approved) MA dissertation! https://t.co/J3HYnn528g on @ResearchGate
@Telegraph Poor poppets, imagine having to face that, being dragged in, kicking and screaming, to a higher tax bracket, through no fault of your own, it's tragic. Spare a thought for this downtrodden minority this Christmas, folks.
@Christianilbury not sure I've ever said this word. I remember me and a friend giggling at school because they pronounced it ˌhəuməuˈsɛksjuʷəl in some sort of information video and that's all we took from that lesson
@RobDrummond@91caitlin I like to use crude expressions about people having unholy crushes on Latin when trying to explain stuff like the preposition rule. I will shout at the telly if necessary, try me😡 I'm talking about you Big Bang Theory, shame on you Sheldon
On Sunday 17 March 4pm Aylesbury Vale Concert Orchestra is performing an afternoon of classical music at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. All proceeds to Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity

@DrClaireH Love it! I'm considering a Masters, but worried about getting a job (struggling with traditional linguistics Masters) - who is recruiting into FL jobs at the moment that I could research??
Our guinea pigs were of course all given middle names, taken from my daughter's favourite songs; and nothing is better than when the vet comes into the waiting room, looks at their notes and says "Pickle Roxanne Lloyd Evans?" 😂
(Roxanne, Chase Atlantic, tho, not The Police!)
Can't lie, the job alerts I get from all the standard recruitment sites are really overblowing my qualifications. An MA in Linguistics is not a PhD in Molecular Biology with one year's assay experience. Pretty sure I won't get past the first hurdle with this
@LinguisticsShi1@dejectedvole To be fair that's a hideous pronunciation though. Like prosody. Which I find hilariously ironic. I spent a long time doing anything I could to avoid having to say that word out loud lol
@LauraTheSwiftie I definitely do this. It's the same part of my brain that hates having loads of 'appointments' in the day - even if they're nice things like classes for my hobbies, or seeing friends...!
@FountainPenDiva Ooh I literally just read about this! The whole escaping from Oxford castle shenanigans and the fact that all the royal women at the time were called Matilda. Which was a bit confusing. Stephen seemed a bit, well, rubbish.
@garicgymro The one that annoys me more than anything (apart from linguistic ones obvs) is the music one - 'music these days is rubbish'. Try disco dancing to Sit Down by James back in 'my day' before slagging off today's music, I dare you
@TriciaCanning Yes, would love to - just looking for something which is likely to get me a satisfying career at the end! It's the Aston distance-learning one I'm looking at
