@TheBurienVoice@kingcosoPIO@BurienPD@Burien Couldn’t agree more, let’s collaborate with those national experts and our home talent to build inclusive programs. And since you bring up funding, then hope you’re ready to help raise the needed funds! It takes a village
The 2018 #GangPreventionConference, provided valuable expert advise on dealing with gang and youth violence. With national experts who can help us address the concerns in our community.
Data driven, community transformation, is relationship-driven intervention. We need to meet and get to know the most at-risk individuals in our community on a name-by-name basis to ensure our efforts are correctly targeted
There’s no cookie cutter approach to longterm violence reduction. Burien, let’s collaborate have a needs assessment study, then implement targeted programs (prevention/intervention). A law enforcement only approach doesn’t work #GangPreventionConference
Conference Lesson: Experts agree/data reflects, less than 1/2 of 1% of youth in any community participate in gangs. In Burien, 1/3 are under 24, that’s roughly 15,600 youths. 1/2 of 1% is 78 young people. #WorkingTogether#WeCanSolveIt#Burien#78matter
Conference Lesson: AS A COMMUNITY, WE ALL HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY IN VIOLENCE REDUCTION. We want long term solutions? #ExpertAdvise: job placement, affordable housing, mental health, code enforcement, transportation, and education accessibility #GangPreventionConference
Lesson learned: Out of control kids are not out of control, they are #StrongWilled#NaturalLeaders Let’s stop shaming the kids, the family, and end the misogyny at home. We need to have homes that are lead from a place of love not fear #GangPreventionConference
Attending the Gang Prevention & Intervention Conference. As a community we need to focus on root causes, not only symptoms. #youthviolence#publichealth
