@mekkaokerekebye Yes! And what also changes is language! I don’t think it’s fair to put a pin in the literary timeline and not acknowledge the ongoing linguistic development of the English language.
While I agree that we must keep reading, I am disappointed by Horowitch’s reporting. Speaking as the “one public-high-school teacher in Illinois quoted in the article,” I’ve filled in the considerable gaps here: https://t.co/xVzZ5KdaVo
At elite colleges like Columbia, many students are showing up unprepared to read full books. It’s not that they don’t want to, @rosehorowitch writes. Middle and high schools have stopped teaching them how: https://t.co/mC5JpaC15M

@KyleLukoff Something good: My students (high school creative writing) asked to do “the collective noun thing” as a warm up again -Storytelling of Ravens and your collective-noun-for-ourselves… it’s a favorite and they love it. 😊💙 -with love from a “revision” of young writers.
In awe of the student who, after asking for a letter of rec, sent me a Google doc of advice for letter writers, links to the essays he'd written in my classes, copies of my comments on his writing, *and* a list of his memories & takeaways from each class 💫

The Angie Thomas Writers scholarship is a full ride scholarship at my alma mater @BelhavenU for an aspiring young writer. Educators, please pass this along.
Because @madlilMax loves all things @andyweirauthor …he’s turning 11 on Mars this year. (I regret failing to take a picture of the outstanding potato bar we had for lunch…) 🚀🥔👨🚀🧁
Just saw this thread by @NomeDaBarbarian posted on tiktok and CAN A NEUROTYPICAL PERSON CONFIRM BC WHAT?!? You mean you do things w/o actively making a new choice to do it every time you do it and you dont have to exert the same energy to make yourself do it every time?
@heymrsbond This is my favorite questions! I wish I could have book amnesia and read Life of Pi and American Gods. So jealous of the people who get to read these stories for the first time yet!
